As chaotic as the Dossier is, I am glad it includes the work of other comrade artists from that period to remind me that I was not isolated. In contrast to my more commercial stuff of the last few days my brother and sister artists thought like me and also explored some pretty dark themes. Earlier I included a page with Claire’s “I-Con” of conman Swaggart and here are a few of other folks work. Firstly Jasper has done a set of work with the faces of babies labelled as the kind of abusive terms used against adults like “Scum”, “Prostitute” and “Drug Addict” which suggested that every person we judge or abuse was someone’s baby at some point. Next was a still from an imagined kidnapping as though shot on security footage which was about raw threat and coercion, in my sketchbook it was brutally titled “A picture is worth a thousand quid”. After that comes some work by the excellent Paul Anthony. They combine images of rent boy type characters with medical procedures. These were done on oranges to emasculate them by cutting out their seeds. Done under medical conditions with sterile instruments they are visually beautiful and lead to the sculptural forms next which were mounted on boards and covered in sterile dental damns (to further solidify the references to sexuality). The lead fishing weights were wonderfully toxic. I also liked found photographs so they cropped up in sketchbook too. The first was a multiple exposure ripped into a pile of jigsaw pieces in the street that was too intriguing not to reassemble and seems to show various things, followed by a smaller group shot that had been deliberately ripped out of a larger piece for whatever reason. The title was typically bleak, if was followed by one of baby Heather’s drawings for a glimpse of joy and innocence and finally by two photos from The Flat (t.m.)of Jasper and I looking approachable and lovable (With the partially complete Dossier between us) and Phil and I attempting to escape out of the window for some reason. #sketchbook #archive #journalling #darkness #fellowartist #comrades #nostalgia #90s #transgressive #queerartist #liverpoolartist (at Toxteth, L8) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7n_6nPgR-Y/?igshid=v7go29d2du1u
