West Michigan, Haunted?
If you happened to be visiting the West Michigan area and struck up a conversation with one of the locals about haunted houses, more likely than not the Felt Mansion will be mentioned. I realize the probability of both visiting the Saugatuck area AND having a local resident mention haunted houses is slim.
Rumor has it that due to Agnes and Dorr Felt’s limited time to enjoy the estate during their lives, they pop in now and again to enjoy the grounds during their after-life. The beautiful grounds boast two larger buildings, including the mansion, a chapel, trails to the beach, and a frisbee golf course to boot (how Mid-West of us).
Despite the rumors, the Felt Estate is a popular wedding venue. To upkeep the estate to maintain the former glory, hundreds of volunteers gather to help with Historical Restoration. More info on the Felt Estate and the stories behind it below:

If not the Felt Mansion, then the “Melon Heads” would most likely come up as it is an urban legend that resides primarily in the Holland/Saugatuck area.
The Melon Heads legend comes out of Holland/Saugatuck, Michigan and tells about a band of hydrocephalic (water on the brain) children living in the woods of the Saugatuck area. Their medical condition causes them to have huge, swollen heads. The traditional story tells of a hospital in the area that was treating these children long ago. The hospital had to close, and the children having nowhere to go, were released into the wilds of Holland (scary…)
Like many urban legends, this one is often deemed to be a false story to scare children into good behavior, or to play tricks on visitors.
