An accidental bump in the hallway. Papers flutter to the floor. Eyes meet in a re-enactment of that old movie cliche, but Alexis doesn’t have the sense of mind to laugh at herself, transfixed by eyes which burn bright as the sun.
In fact, she doesn’t even know that she’s staring, until the voice in her earpiece sings, “Deer in headlights...”
“Shut up,” Alexis retorts instinctively, then horror washes over her when those radiant eyes widen in surprise. “Oh, damn it - sorry. I didn’t mean-, it’s not you. I was talking to...”
Alexis holds her palm up - which is graced with a brief shimmer of platinum particles, then nothing. Her face scrunches in a frown as she tries again - more insistent this time, and her Ghost finally materialises.
“Her! I was talking to her.”
“Hi Felya,” Fang chirps. “I must say, your hair’s looking luscious today.”
“Only today?” Felya laughs gently. Her eyes flicker to Alexis, before she bends down to retrieve the papers on the floor.
Alexis jolts into action then, crouching to help gather the warlock’s papers - research notes, by the look of them - and straightens herself at the same time as Felya. She musters what she hopes is a charming smile, as she hands the papers back. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s alright.” Felya mirrors her smile, then looks to Fang as well. “I’ll see you two around.”
Alexis waves, and Fang’s chassis spins in farewell. They watch Felya walk into the library, and when she disappears behind a shelf, Alexis whirls onto Fang.
“I. Hate. You.”
“And I love you,” Fang croons, bumping against Alexis’ forehead. “My useless little Hunter.”
Alexis sighs as Fang disappears, and the voice sings in her ear once more, “Deer in headlights...”

A/N: Brief backstory for my warlock
They knew, the instant they laid eyes on her. An Awoken woman wandering into the Reef, gazing about aimlessly with eyes that burnt bright as a sun, but looked so utterly lost. Confused. Only half-listening to the Ghost floating above her shoulder.
The guards whisked her away, through polished corridors and puzzled glances, into a plain room with a table and chairs, and a sofa by a tinted window. It was at the window she waited, fingertip dully stinging where they’d pricked her for a blood sample. And it was hours before she was visited - by two guards, and a group of strangers.
The strangers regarded her with pain, grief, disbelief. Even resentment, but she doubted it was directed at her, when she was given brief hugs - silent, but with the affection of one’s family. ‘We are family,’ said one woman. ‘But you...perhaps no longer.’
She cocked her head, but didn’t ask questions - they seemed disinclined to give answers. She nodded in farewell when the strangers left, and she was left to stay in her room for another handful of hours.
When the door swung open once more, another stranger walked through - accompanied by his own Ghost. ‘Follow me,’ he said. ‘And you shall find your destiny.’
She was dubious, but followed him nonetheless. Her Ghost seemed to trust this stranger, and for the first time sounded happy since he’d found her on a lonely planet far from the Reef, then spent the entire journey to the Reef begging her to return to the ‘Traveler’ on Earth. He’d won out, in the end.
When they boarded the Guardian’s ship, her guide handed her a datapad that contained an empty dossier, which she would fill over the years, and provided her a single, vital piece of information then.
Name: Felya Sen
