the way changli told rover not to worry about her when she revealed going to mt firmament would shorten her lifespan
the way jinhsi was so willing to give up her life for jinzhou and its people
the way jinhsi told changli that changli taught her to stick to what was true even if it cost her her life
the way changli's expression shifted ever so subtly, as if realizing that perhaps not only did she pass her wisdom to jinhsi but also her disregard for her own life, however subconsciously
the way rover told jinhsi that they won't let her die
the way rover reached for changli as she turned to face the remnants of the tacet discords within the sonoro sphere
the way changli's expression became sad when rover told fuling to remember that people cared for her and wanted to see her live, perhaps coming to understand that she too had been living as if her life was something disposable for too long
i just think they're neat is all

“Can you hear me?”
The first thing she sees when she opens her eyes is a woman. Long black hair, a blue hat on her head. Bangs frame a gentle face with worried gray eyes, a face that lights up with a relieved smile as soon as she meets the woman’s eyes. “Thank goodness, you’re finally awake.”
Hesitantly, she braces herself against the ground as she pushes herself up. The tingle in her wrist is quickly forgotten as she takes in the scenery around her.
She sits at the bottom of what appears to be a gorge. Towering rock cliffs jut out from the ground, curling slightly inwards at the top. In front of her, a trampled dirt path lined with half-dead, yellow grass wound its way on either side, disappearing into the distance. The occasional tree with twisted trunks spurted from the edges of cliffs, its leaves gently rustling in the breeze. The air feels… heavy, she thinks. Like a storm brewing.
She turns her attention to the woman kneeling in front of her, absentmindedly noting her attire—blue tank top, tactical belt, sword sheath. Those gray eyes—like the clouds, she can’t help but think—scrutinize her intently, but the woman’s expression is kind, patient.
“Where am I?” Her voice comes out raspy, as if she hadn’t spoken in eons. She clears her throat and tries again. “How… how did I end up here?”

“Just a few more steps, and we’ll be out of the gorge soon.”
She looks up from where she’s crouched next to a tubular metal device mounted upright—a Resonance Beacon, Yangyang had called it, set up to monitor abnormal frequencies. Brushing the dirt off of herself, she rises to her feet and joins Yangyang, who stands at the entrance to a tunnel boring through the mountainside. Beyond, she can see the roiling clouds of the sky, the path that winds through and ends in a steep drop-off.
Yangyang’s terminal is in her hands, projecting a holographic blue screen. Her fingers fly over the keyboard as her brow scrunches in concentration. “I’ve confirmed the coordinates of our rendezvous with my team,” Yangyang says, glancing up at her as the blue screen blinks out of existence. She latches her terminal back to her belt. “With any luck, they’ll be there around the same time we arrive.”
She gives a nod of acknowledgement. As she gazes upon the landscape around them, she notes the occasional blooms of flowers peeking out among the yellowed grass, the gray gloom of the rocky walls with creeping green vines and the jagged, twisted branches of dead trees. In a different life, she wonders, would this scenery have been filled with color and light and life? In a different time, would she have called this place beautiful?
Movement rustles out of the corner of her eye, and she sees Yangyang set forward, her steps purposeful and resolute. Left with nothing else to ponder, she follows behind.
