On 13 September 1944 Noor Inayat Khan was executed at Dachau concentration camp with three other female SOE agents.

Noor had been captured in October 1943, after declining SOE’s offer to pull her out of France. As the only remaining SOE wireless operator in Paris her work was essential, but extremely dangerous. She outran the Gestapo several times, and was only captured after her landlady betrayed her. Unfortunately when her room was search, the Gestapo found her codebook, which allowed them to pretend to be her and communicate with London.

In the following months Noor made several escape attempts, and refused to give out information despite being tortured. She was awarded a posthumous George Cross in 1947.
