A letter to Anita Sarkeesian
There are some of us, who play and enjoy video games, that would like nothing more than to sit down and engage in a sensible and civil discussion with you. Video games as a medium are trying to appeal to everybody, but because of that, all of them are not actually going to appeal to everybody for the same reasons. Though I'm sure you'll have noticed that tastes have started to change as the consumer base for video games widens. We didn't have those kinds of social games, lifestyle simulators and what-not back in the days of Quake and Mortal Kombat.
Personally, whenever I play Rockstar's excellent tale of the fading glory of the Old West, Red Dead Redemption, I always choose to play the upstanding and noble hero. In a random scripted event, the game may elect to portray some unsavoury character venting his frustrations on a female NPC. Upon being rescued from these unwanted attentions, the former victim always kicks their erstwhile aggressor and the balance of power has shifted.
