Does your mother know you treat girls like this?

On this, australian mother's day, I got to thinking about feminism because; of course.

I've been talking to a few of my guy friend's recently about their hook ups and more often than not, doing so makes me feel a bit sick. I wondered how they mother's would act if they knew. If they knew their sons treated so many girls as disposable, if they knew boys they'd raised were hurting other people the way that maybe they've been hurt. I do tell my friend's they're jerks, I don't confine these rants to this blog which has been increasingly angry feminist, but it takes more than my disapproval for them to actually give a rats ass.

Maybe a mother's opinion would actually have an effect? How many mothers actually talk to their sons about girls and relationships? I don't know, I feel like too many boys get their notions of what's important from other boys which is fine but without a female perspective it's almost impossible to empathise with them. Men are wired differently to women and the physical is just the physical but or realize that women are humans. This is why I hate private boys schools.

I don't want to imply my friend's mothers have failed them at all, but it's obvious that the influence they have on their son's "romantic" conquests is minimal. I don't even vaguely know how to combat that, not being a mother myself.

I really think it's important to raise boys and girls with a healthy respect for the other. Actually at the end of the day it's about humans treating each other with the respect that they deserve because they are humans.

Knife does cut both ways girls; men are not commodities. We mightn't use sex in the same way but we do use it as a weapon to boost our egos to their detriment.
