Me and my friend are ridiculously attached to the idea of FeniRin. So we have these outbursts of feelings for that wonderful idea of a pairing. Which is why I wrote this Halloween-themed Phoenix x Rinko fic. Dedicated to my beloved friend Jas <3
"What... are you wearing?" Rinko slowly asked as soon as she opened the door to his apartment. Phoenix was wearing a policeman costume, complete with handcuffs and baton. And an empty basket was on the side table beside him. "Um... Are you, perhaps, doing-"
"Isn't this some kind of human event?" Phoenix shrugged. "I just thought it was a nice idea." He grinned. "Now do I get my donuts?"
She couldn't help but smile. "That's what this is for?"
"You haven't visited me for a while." He commented offhandedly, scanning her from head to toe to see if she brought anything. A smile appeared on his face when he saw a box on her right hand. "Yosha!" He ran over to her and snatched the box away. Inside were halloween-themed donuts from Hungry. "Ah... what the hell is with this design?" He pointed to the pumpkin designed one. "I do like this one though." As expected, he loved the gory-looking donuts on the side.
She laughed. "That's your interest, ne?" She took the pumpkin one and bit on it. "This one is pumpkin flavored because pumpkins are closely related to halloween... somehow."
Phoenix raised an eyebrow. "You don't understand why either, do you?" He chuckled. "You humans really are weird." He then proceeded to lean forward and take bite from her donut.
"HEY!" She pouted, blushing a bit. "You have the whole box to yourself!"
He smirked. "But that's the only pumpkin-flavored one, right?" He shrugged as if it was nothing. He than sat down on the couch and waited for her to do the same. It's always like this anyway. They've fallen into rhythm now. "What are you waiting for?" He asked when she still stood on his doorway.
She grimaced and gestured to his whole getup. "I'm still unsure about the whole costume idea." She explained vaguely. Then, with a sigh, she decided to just straight out ask it. "Where did you get the costume?"
"I bought it." He smirked, looking pretty proud of himself.
"And the money came from...?" For a second, she wondered if she left her money here somewhere or anything. She would have thought about him stealing or harassing people for money, but she was too sure he would not do something so stupid. After all they've been through (hiding here, not fighting wizard, waiting for the right time to tell everyone the truth, hoping for the others to understand, finally getting everyone's approval, etc.), she was sure Phoenix would not throw all those away. The only money source he has is her, or he could have gotten a job (unlikely), or-
He crossed his arms and grinned. "I accompanied your young master friend. He treated me to this costume and the handcuffs. Pretty cool, huh?" He obviously loved the props alongside his costume. The handcuffs were clearly in his area of interest. (She really should be worried about how he'll use that thing, shouldn't she?)
"Young master friend?" Did she have anyone like that? And who would actually be stupid enough to- Oh. "Shunpei-kun?"
He nodded dismissively. "Man, that guy's loaded. He bought all these stupid looking clothes." He sighed. "I was being really kind though. You should be proud of me. I didn't burn any of it! I was tempted to though." He laughed and looked at Rinko with those childish eyes. "Does he seriously not see how blinding those colors are?"
She rolled her eyes at that. "I admit his wardrobe is... um, disastrous. But Feni-kun doesn't have any right to judge him. You wear that red and black outfit all the time!"
"And it doesn't look good?" His smirk showed how he already knew the answer to his question. She loved that shirt on him. It was perfect for him. Even if he wore that everyday, it wasn't anything bad at all. Rather, she just grew fonder of it as time passed.
"That's not the point!" She said instead, obviously flustered but not wanting to back down. "Choosing clothes everyday is tiring."
He rolled his eyes. "You always wear the same thing too anyway." He commented, gesturing to her black formal clothes. "Not that I'm complaining"
She fought down the blush forming. "Of course I wear this all the time. It's for work."
"You should find that Shunpei a job. Or else I'll really burn down his closet." Phoenix concluded as if it was the only choice he had.
"Don't say something like that!" She complained.
Tsk-ing in annoyance, he stood up and pulled her hand to drag her to the couch. They haven't seen each other in a while so if they were going to fight, they should do it while sitting together in the couch like they always do. "Anyway," He decided to change the topic altogether. Talking about that Shunpei guy was not interesting at all. "Why aren't you wearing a costume? I thought it was common sense for all humans to do it."
She laughed a bit at that. "Not everyone. I have work today so I couldn't-"
He frowned. "That's boring." Sighing again, he stood up and picked a paper bag from the side. He tossed it to her lap and commanded firmly, "Change into those, then."
She peeked inside. A female-type police uniform (with short skirt a cute hate) was inside. "Um, Feni-kun, we're supposed to wear something we're not. I'm a policewoman so... It's not really-"
"I've never seen you wear anything like that." He counter-argued easily. "It's fine, right? We're just inside the room."
She grimaced. "But this skirt is pretty..."
"I could just fetch that Santa costume-" He had that teasing smile on.
"NO!" She immediately shook her head and stood up. "This is fine! This is great!" She laughed awkwardly and ran to the bathroom to change.
(And when she came out, well, he was assured that this was definitely worth hanging out with Shunpei for a day. He should buy more of these costumes.)
