Fashion Is Not an Invitation
Last night I was wearing a leather skirt, a crop top, and sky high heels- apparently this man took this as an invitation to smack my ass as he walked by and his buddies had a field day about it. He was pushing thirty and desperately trying to look younger than he was. I said loudly so he, his friends, and all the women around me could hear, “Wow glad some forty year old thought he’s allowed to just smack my ass. He’s FORTY.” The look of horror on his face was priceless. Now instead of fantasying about my ass and how he violated my body, he will just be playing the image about how the young woman thinks he’s too old to be out at the bar. I’m sick of men thinking that just because I dress a certain way that I am carving for their attention. I dress the way I do because I am a confident, strong woman who is secure in herself- which he realized when I calmly turned the situation around on home and let him be the one to feel insecure. Hopefully he thinks twice before thing to demean a person like that again.
A slight rant
So I read this article on feminism today and it's really pissed me off!! Basically it's saying that feminists are meant to be plain janes who don't dress girly or wear makeup because they are above it all. Well what a load of bull.
I consider myself a feminist and why not? I do what I want and speak my mind no matter what anyone thinks. A feminist surely is someone who thinks for herself, is independent and makes her own decisions. I studied science for 4 years at university and am planning to do a postgraduate degree. I also own a hell of a lot of make up and 50 pairs of shoes. This article basically said that because I enjoy doing my hair and make up and getting dressed up that I could not be a feminist. Clearly this is such a hypocritical idea that I felt the need to rant about it.
I never let other people make decisions for me. I am true to myself and have no problems voicing my opinions on just about everything (proved by this rant) but because I am a bit of a girly girl I can't be a feminist. Well guess what? I am more of one than the moron who wrote that article because instead of dictating what so called feminists should be and think like I encourage each person to be themselves and individual because at the end of the day that's what makes the world interesting.
A feminist is not someone who follows the crowd and stops shaving her legs because stereotypes say she should. A feminist is someone who stops shaving her legs because she wants to. Or someone who studies engineering at university because she likes the subject. A feminist is someone who makes her own decisions, does what she wants, speaks her mind and does not let other peoples jaded and closed minded views get in her way.
So I had to get that off my chest. Rant over :-)
