this week has started off pretty hard for me, and it’s really challenging to feel motivated and happy with so much going on — things happen so fast and sudden, it’s difficult to process. Heronflame (kit/paw) has always been a character that’s brought me comfort, and in my moments of recent sadness, i found myself turning to draw him, and to reflect how i felt through his own story! i think it’s wonderful how simple characters like him can embody my emotions, and it’s almost like i move my burdens off of my shoulders and gently down onto him; and, of course, it doesn’t affect him, as he is fictional. i think it’s safe to say that Heronflame is definitely a strategy of mine for coping, and keeping myself calm!!! and i’m so thankful for that!!!

Swiftshade is an outspoken, fearless warrior of FennelClan, kin to her equally brave brother Ebonycatch. She serves her home proudly, though she struggles against the judgement and opinions of her peers, feeling inferior.

sootkit, do you think you’ll ever be a medicine cat like your dad?

Sootkit absolutely adores herbs, as well as the stories and fables passed down by healers, and it would be his dream to work alongside his father in the healer’s den. But, at the first sight of blood, or a snapped leg, or a sniffling ailment, he completely freezes up and goes still with fear. Elkberry, his father, recognises that Sootkit wouldn’t be able to work with injured or sick cats with these phobias and aversions. So, Sootkit will go on to train as a warrior apprentice, but he will always be allowed to help out with collecting herbs, or telling stories to kittens!

(Sootkit and his father will be introduced in Chapter 2.)
