Fentanyl is killing people at unprecedented rates and something has to be done about it. On July 31, 2021, one of my best friends lost her only daughter Ione Minei Koenig to a fentanyl overdose. She was 18 years old, a month shy of her 19th birthday. Ione was so special to me. When she passed, the world stopped, and it took me quite a while before I could begin to feel even the slightest bit of normalcy.

Jada and I cope with her loss every day. Some days are easier than others, there are times when a song or a tv show or movie will trigger us and we live the loss all over again. It's hard. It's even harder on Ione's family, her little brother and her mother, my dear friend, Shoko.

Shoko recently recorded her story for Project 1 Life and because today, May 10, 2022 is the first ever National Fentanyl Awareness Day, I have decided to share her video here.
