Started sending out job applications since May and although I've sadly got no positive response so far, a lot of them are at least actually getting back to me even if it's just a rejection email. It's low-key sad that it has become so normalised for companies to just ghost applicants that it's already a positive surprise when they don't for once😐 To be fair those were all initiative applications so I knew that the chances were low to begin with as they might just not have a need for a new employee right now, but I've picked companies that all looked to have pretty good pay and working conditions so it still would've been nice if it had worked out.

I'm looking for active job listings as well now, but unfortunately there are a lot more for senior positions and few for juniors (I'm searching for something in the area of software development, specifically web dev as that's what I already did for the past ~2 years and I hope that having relevant work experience will help me at least a little). There are also some jobs that I've filtered out myself though as they don't pay according to IT wage agreement, and this is an issue I've already fallen into at my previous job and want to avoid in the future. Where I live the minimum monthly wage is dependent on the work sector the company operates in (and while nearly all jobs are covered through those wage agreements anyway, I still think it wouldn't be bad to also have a general minimum wage), but this can mean that you end up under an agreement that your specific work field doesn't actually fit in. For example if you work in a small marketing agency, all employees may be paid according to the marketing wage agreement even if some people might do web development, system administration or something else that doesn't have anything to do with marketing in their day to day work whatsoever.

At least no one can pull the "the youngsters don't even want to work anymore" card with me, I'm putting effort into my applications and I'm not generally opposed to having a job, but☝️ I want to be compensated appropriately for what I do.

I ordered this book about the production of Das Boot a while ago and it finally arrived yesterday! I really love all sorts of behind the scenes content, art books, production notes and that type of stuff so I had to get it.

That was actually not that easy though, it is sold through the online shop of the German Film Museum, but they only ship within Germany (you can select any country for the billing address, but only Germany for the shipping address). I found it on some other websites that were reselling it, but they were way overpriced, I found one where it sold for 99€ and on Amazon even for fucking 200€ - the original is available for like 25€🫠 Luckily I was able to convince my dad to set up a PO box in Germany for us though - he's been wanting to do that for a while anyway since he's had similar issues a couple times (usually when he wanted to buy stuff for his computer or camera from German shops that don't sell internationally), and apparently it was actually quite easy as our postal service offers an option for that. So now I could just have the package sent there and they'd forward it to us.

I only flipped through it so far as I haven't had time to read it properly, but I'm looking forward to it!

Ever since I played the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance game I've been wondering why Istvan Toth's German voice sounds so familiar, but I could never point out from where else specifically I knew him, until now. His voice actor, Charles Rettinghaus, is fairly successful and has voiced loads of different characters during his career, but I had the feeling that I probably didn't remember him from one of his more well-known roles, but rather some one-off villain or minor character from a kids show or something like that. Specifically that arrogant, backstabbing villain tone he does as Istvan felt oddly familiar to me. Turns out I was completely right, because today (randomly while brushing my teeth) it suddenly struck me: He was also the German voice of Kuchikukan, a one-off villain in The Penguins of Madagascar in the special episode Operation Lunacorn Apocalypse. To sum it up in the shortest way possible, Kuchikukan is an evil spirit who is accidentally freed and then takes possession of Private's toy unicorn, as he needs a body in order to follow through with his his plan to take over and eventually destroy the planet, and of course the penguins have to stop him. He talks with exactly the same arrogant, overconfident voice as Istvan does whenever he's sure that he has the upper hand in a situation. It's just so hilarious to me to see them side by side, like - in another universe, Istvan Toth is an evil pink toy unicorn with world domination/destruction plans.

Also by now I've already reached the point in the story of KDC2 where Istvan won't make another appearance (I should prioritise my assignments but I just love this game so much❤️), and honestly I'm almost kind of sad about it now. Like, when I'm immersed in the story playing as Henry he always pissed me off extremely, but as a character viewed from the outside, he weirdly grew on me in the second game now, and I think a big part of the reason is because he always sounded like his voice actor had just so much fun voicing him and I just found him really entertaining. Like, he really stole the show every time he was on screen. I feel like this playthrough won't remain the only one I do😅

I don't know why, but apparently some kind of "secret ingredient" to make a piece of media interesting to me is really just to have Some Kind Of Boat in it. Doesn't even really matter which type, it can be a "classical" ship that moves on the water like (most of them) in Pirates of the Caribbean, a submarine like in Das Boot or even every imaginable type of spaceship like in Star Wars, if you count those. And all that while I live in a landlocked country😂

I'm thinking I'm finally slowly getting back into drawing😩 It's mainly for school, but I've also started doing some personal doodles and stuff, even though it's not really something I feel like posting yet.

There's something I could need a bit of advice for though, specifically from my mutuals and other artists who work on an iPad. I've been recently thinking about getting myself one as well, because I realised that sometimes I want to draw, but don't really feel like sitting at my desk where I have my setup with my big pen display. Recently I often enjoyed it more when I was sitting in my comfy chair or lying in my bed. I'm currently still using a Samsung Tab S6 Lite which I got in ... 2019 or 2020? It's still running okay-ish, but it does lag a bit sometimes and to be honest something I've never particularly liked about it was the feeling of the S pen, for me personally it just feels too thin and light to draw comfortably with it for a longer time, at best I manage the sketch and then move it to my computer to finish the drawing there (which is why I'm not really considering buying an updated version of this one, or another type of Samsung/Android tablet). Although I'm usually a little hater when it comes to Apple, I still have to admit that the combination of the iPad, Apple Pencil and Procreate was something they did right.

I'm definitely planning on getting a refurbished one because in no way I'm affording a brand new one (have you seen those prices?!), and also I still don't want to give my money to Apple on principle lol. However I'm not quite decided on which model and specifications I should choose. At the moment I'm considering either the 2021 or 2022 model of the iPad Pro (probably the 12.9 size). My biggest concern right now is whether I should go with the 8 or 16GB of RAM, especially since I've read that it influences the maximum layer number in Procreate. On my computer I rarely use canvas sizes smaller than 3000x3000px so it might feel a bit weird if I had to adjust to a smaller size now, also I'm someone who tends to go a bit overboard with the number of layers at least on full illustrations, so I'd appreciate input from my fellow artists about what configuration you use and if it ever limits you. If you have any other tips or recommendations, like which screen size is more comfortable, or maybe you can actually recommend a cheaper model altogether (it's just that I've always heard people mostly mention the iPad Pro when it comes to doing art on a non stationary device), or anything helpful regarding Procreate I'd be happy to hear that as well! c:
