I’m honestly still working on these, that’s why I’ll just be sharing wips there for now.
Feral pt2
You rush to the garage door to her in a corner shrieking and pointing. You look in the direction of her finger and see a raccoon in the yard. It must have been rummaging through some trash over the weekend and didn’t flee when you guys drove up early this morning. You crept up on it and manage to scare it off.
But as you make your back to your sister, you see that see is still backed into to the corner. “Em, it’s okay, the raccoon is gone see, he’s-” You now realize it is not the raccoon that Em was pointing after all. Your gaze follows hers till out of the corner of your left eye you see a figure. More like a shadow with the lack of light. You are the oldest you tell yourself. When mom and dad are not here it’s your job to protect Em. Trying not to show your fear you approach the figure slowly. As you get closer your eyes begin to adjust to the darkness. You can make out an old woman.
You remember one of your professors talking about people living in houses that appeared vacant for awhile and you fear subsides some. You lower your shoulders and reach a hand to her as you step forward. “It’s okay,” you say. No one will hurt you. She pulls back more into the corner. “Go get a glass water, Em!” Em drops her broom which she was clinging and all too eagerly runs into the house.
feral raccoon, feral lady pt1
As you pull up to the new house, the neighbors were getting out of their car. It was a lady in her 50’s and two teen-aged girls. The neighbors began to chat loudly among themselves, especially the teen-aged girls who are a little younger than you. They smile acknowledge you as they continue up to their garage door. One of the girls spoke about how cute their cousin was and how it was a shame he was not allowed to visit any more. She went on to say she wish she could marry him but thought that that was illegal. The older and obviously wiser girl informed them that marriage to a cousin was possible in the state of California but she needed parental consent. They both stare in their mother’s direction.
The mother noticed the glance in her direction under the perfectly pressed blonde streaked hair as she fixed her hair in the rear view mirror. She didn’t even look in their direction but responded, “Not on your lives.” She smiled at the girls through the mirror. The girls then hurried off and began to talk softly and giggle. The “mom” entered their house and bid you goodbye. You realize that you had been staring for awhile hoping that you did not creep them out too much.
You get out of car with your groceries and start to the door. Your younger sister comes out of the house to to help. She is beaming from ear to ear, proud of all the cleaning she has done. She just wants to finish cleaning the garage and grabs the keys from your hand in order to move your dad’s car. It had become a habit of yours to let her move the cars when your parents were gone to give her some practice but never in this close of quarters. Nervously you let her take the keys.
Sister moves dad’s favorite car and steers it in between your car and his old car a little too quickly for your taste but not hitting anything. She puts it in park and jumps out almost skipping our to you.
“See, told you I could do it.” She tosses you the keys and joyfully skips away. Why was she awls so hyper?
You go inside only to hear shrieks coming from her moments later.
