                            HER  HEART  IS  POUNDING  AGAINST  HER  RIBCAGE,   adrenaline  making  her  body  vibrate  as  she  crawls  across  the  ground   &   coughs  water  out  of  her  lungs.   her  arms  are  about  to  give  way  to  her  weight  when  his  words  register  in  her  head,   eyes  finding  the  necklace  clutched  within  the  palm  of  her  right  hand   &   surge  of  anger  forces  her  to  stand  up.   ❝  ❛ a  silly  thing ❜ ?  ❞   her  head  shakes,   jaw  clenching  as  she  looks  at  the  locket  once  more   &   tears  prick  the  corner  of  her  eyes.   ❝  this  is  the  last  thing  i  have  from  my  mother.   i’ve  worn  it  since  the  day  she  died   &   i  will  wear  it  until  it’s  time  to  pass  it  along  to  my  daughter.  ❞

                                        the  chain  has  already  repaired  itself,   the  enchantment  her  grandmother  placed  on  it  working  its  magic  after  it  was  yanked  from  her  neck.   fingers  clasp  it  behind  her  neck,   the  rage  from  his  comment  still  simmering  beneath  the  surface  so  she  lashes  out.   ❝  i  was  doing  just  fine  before  you  jumped  in  after  me.   your  dead  weight  nearly  drowned  us   &   if  it  wasn’t  for  me,   you’d  be  floating  face  down  in  the  water  right  now.   i  will  never  need  a  dog  to  rescue  me.  ❞

a shaky breath escaped the younger as he all but curled in on himself. forehead rested against milo’s shoulder, eyes falling closed for a quick second before they flickered open again. “you don’t have to comfort me, y’know?”

“you are!” ryder was quick to argue before his shoulders slumped and something in his face softened. “to me you are.”

eyes quickly glanced over the other male’s face and you could almost see the wheels inside ryder’s head turning. “but I want to kiss you,” he said with a hint of a whine in his voice.

“I thought your soul was filled with rainbows and butterflies,” ryder teased as he hooked his chin over milo’s shoulder. bright eyes glanced toward the other male’s face before he smiled. “right? you’re a ray of sunshine.”

“you sound like an edgy fifteen year old, dude.” the words were meant mostly as a joke.
