Ferncliff Peninsula Fossils | Ohiopyle, PA
A hike along the Youghiogheny River on the Ferncliff Peninsula side of Ohiopyle Falls will take you over boulders and large rocks. If you look carefully, you’ll find many reminders of a more tropical time, 300 million years ago. One neat aspect of the Ferncliff area, in addition to the unusual climate and plant life there, is the long gone plant life left behind.
Calamites fossil along the Youghiogheny River. This grew to about 100 feet tall and went extinct 250 million years ago.
300 million years ago the area was a tropical swamp covered in a shallow sea. Ferns and trees grew 80-100 feet high in the standing water. The plants were trapped in sandstone. Over many, many years, the sandstone was worn away revealing the impressions of these long extinct plants.
Lepidodendron, aka “scale tree.” This went extinct 250M years ago.
Not sure how to identify this one, but it’s the most unique I found.
An interesting Cordaites that rises above the rock, after the erosion of the sandstone around it. This is similar to what grows in the everglades.
Another Calamite.
A Lepidodendron peeking out from under the moss.
Some random impressions on a large, well-worn boulder.
I’ve always had a fascination with prehistoric life and archeology, so it was really neat to see these all along my hike!
The biggest and most important reason I went to NY. ♥️
It took me 17 years to get to you. 17 years to stand before you and tell you how much you have impacted and changed my life. 17 years to have the strength to make this trip and allow my tears to fall freely down my face. And they did. The minute I rounded that corner and saw your name on the wall. Time stood still in those moments. I was back to being a 16 year old kid who had just lost her idol and wasn’t sure how to process it. But then...I was overcome with an overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility. My heart felt full. And I knew it was because I had finally found something I had spent all these years searching for. Acceptance.
It was my absolute honour to visit you Babygirl. You took a piece of my heart with you the day that you left this world behind. June 21st, 2018, I left another piece of it behind with you. I am forever changed, forever grateful. And will never forget this moment for as long as I live. I love you. Always 💕
Until we meet again.....
Your fan,
Frances

If there were a legitimate alternative to seven years of credit denial, that alternative could mean early parole from the bad credit prison. What does the law say about repairing your credit? As the credit bureaus computerized their processes and greatly expanded their reach and influence in the late 1960s and early 1970s, consumer complaints began to pile up at the FTC and state attorney generals’ offices. The credit reporting agencies quickly became huge bureaucracies second only in size to the federal government. Yet, the credit bureaus expressly served only the needs of their clients, the credit grantors.
