real talk every jew should watch An American Pickle especially if you feel disconnected from your jewish heritage. it’s a delightful jewish fairy tale romp thru brooklyn and the old country, about family and generational trauma and reunion and reconnecting with something you thought lost forever. it’s “my ancestors would be so ashamed of me, i don’t keep shabbos” but your ancestors are actually elated to find you have an array of wonderful spices at your disposal and that you are wealthy beyond their imagining; you own more than one pair of shoes. and shabbos comes again next week, and again the next. there is always another chance. plus klezmer music.
