Ferris Plock’s “Me & My Friends” at Hashimoto Contemporary SF.
Currently on view at Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco, California is artist Ferris Plock’s solo exhibition, “Me & My Friends.”
Each of Ferris Plock’s new works explore the meditative and cathartic process of creating his patterned pieces. Ferris’ work is primarily character based and often reflects his love for pop culture icons, cartoon characters close to his heart, music, robots, and traditional Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. His works are whimsical while also displaying his sense of relentless compulsion in every small detail.
The artist’s love of color-play and balance has been a major driving force behind his fine tuned relationship with gouache, spray paint and gold leaf. Containing a mix of mediums and characters, the artist aims to make his artwork in the interest of storytelling; creating a fictional world with familiar characters which bring his work to life in a curious assemblage.

Ferris Plock and Kelly Tunstall offer collaborative and solo works in their new show at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, where they’re based. “PMA,” which stands for “Positive Mental Attitude,” applies their vibrant characters and patterns to their viewpoint of the changing city (or “living beast,” as they refer to it) around them. Kelly Tunstall and Ferris Plock mural at Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous Ice Cream Parlor on 22nd St at 3rd St in the Dogpatch of San Francisco, Ca. This is part of the @trickdogbar Mural Project and the only one indoors. This is well worth the trek. The ice cream is delicious with unusual flavors. This is a married couple who are better known indoors than out. They have shown at several SF Galleries and have art and murals around town including A16 on Chestnut, Bar Crudo in Nopa. They both have very distinct styles with Plock redefining Japanese woodblock in pop terms with samurai on skateboards toting boom boxes and Tunstall wide eyed elongated chicks engaged in an assortment of activities. When they collaborate it is sometimes East meeting West. They are the next artists in residence at the De Young Museum beginning March 1 - April 2nd Wednesday - Sun 1-5pm with a closing reception March 25 from 3-5pm. Free to public. .
