I took this photo outside of the Community Center in West, Texas the night of the explosion at the West Fertilizer Company. The community center has since been converted into a hub of services for residents connecting them with donated goods, volunteers, and even counseling services. It's not the best picture (AT ALL) but on the left you can see some of the residents who had been evacuated from the nursing home near the blast. If anything can be said to be lucky about that night, it was a warm Texas evening and had to be least 70 to 80 degrees. It was surreal to be there - I had never been at the site of disaster before let alone covering it for radio. From the get-go people were showing up to help out, and it was incredible to see that generosity in the immediate hours following the explosion.
