REVIEW: Rex Orange County - Loving him was definitely easy

At only 20, Alexander O'Connor, aka Rex Orange County, is a talented multi-instrumentalist and graduate of the BRIT school (alumni include Amy Winehouse and Adele).

He has had a meteoric rise to success since the release of his first single 'Uno' in 2016 as well as featuring on Tyler, the Creator's Flower Boy album.

With a crowd who seemed to know every word to every song, Rex's set was incredible. During the breaks he spoke knowledgeably about the festival and interacted with the audience – there was a real sense of engagement which drew everyone to this up-and-coming talented performer.

A highlight was Rex's final song , 'Loving Is Easy' when, with everyone singing their hearts out at the end of the performance, confetti cannons on the Radio 1 stage added a picture perfect ending to an amazing set. 

Rex is definitely an artist to look out for in the future. With his popularity high and an incredible stage presence, he’s certainly a rising star.

Community Festival 2017

Community Festival came to London’s Finsbury Park for the first time ever this summer, promising  a one day celebration of the best in new music.

Catfish and the Bottlemen headlined the event's biggest year to date and First Year Music and Live Events Management student Phoebe Scovell was lucky enough to join the team behind the event.

“I arrived on sight a week before the big day to be greeted by Serena the Health & Safety coordinator, my boss for the week. I was on site to present the Health & Safety inductions to all that entered/arrived on sight. This Induction consisted of reading through the site rules, regarding health and safety, i.e. where fire points and production offices were, speeding limits and the yellow and red card policy.

I was mainly based in my own cabin, until fellow student Lauren arrived and we alternated between both induction points.

The amount of people it took to build the site and in such a short time was really what took me by surprise. On my day of arrival the stage had only just began to be built and it honestly did not really look like a stage at all, by Tuesday the main bulk was up, along with the majority of the rest of the site. Electricians, Security, Escorter’s (those who escorted each Vehicle onto sight), builders, the council and catering followed, with the audio, visuals and stage management teams heading in on Thursday.

All in all I had a fantastic time, and an experience I will remember for a long time. The people I met and the lessons I learned made every minute of the long days worth it, and gave me a new found interest in a field of the live events industry that initially I never thought would be for me.

Final life lesson learned - get out of your comfort zone and try something new, you never know what may happen, and it could work majorly in your favour. ‘
