Generally speaking, River and the Doctor didn’t exchange Christmas presents. Except this year he’d left her a note suggesting they did, and she didn’t have the foggiest what to get him.
What do you get a man who has the whole universe in a box?
And no ‘a better box’ is not an answer.
And she refused to get him any sort of hat
So far the only things she could come up with were dressing up for him (and she had a few ideas about what to wear - she noticed which of her outfits were his favourite, she wasn’t blind) or taking him somewhere (but frankly, he’d been everywhere already. She was still trying to convince him to take her to the Singing Towers of Darillium, but he always changed the subject).
She considered jelly babies, or a long scarf, but she needed a better present than that.
So, so far, she didn’t really have a clue, and the only person who knew the Doctor better than herself was the TARDIS, which wasn’t exactly the greatest of help.
Surprises. By this point in his ever-changing, timey-wimey life the Doctor can say, without a glimmer of doubt, that he's a lover of any bolt from the blue. But there is a certain 'blueness' with which he'd thoroughly given up on, and something is telling him it isn't far. And to think he nearly steps right over that something without a passing glance.
"'Scuse me!" he calls out to the object's owner as he picks it up between his fingers. "----Missing a screwdriver?"
