areum leans a little closer towards the male beside her while keeping her attention on the two men, speaking only loud enough for him to hear here. “from what i’m hearing, the muscular one has a girlfriend and thinks that the other one is her lover. the interesting part is, the other guy doesn’t even know the girlfriend. so what would you say to him in order to finally hit that last nerve?” her tone seems almost playful but also dangerous as she asks this.

“hopefully they’re escorted out before it becomes anything like that,” yujin says, and he finishes his drink, setting the glass down and playing with the rings on his fingers to occupy himself, still watching the conversation happen between the two men. it’s not like he hadn’t seen many of these happen, it was quite a common occurrence when drinking was involved. he had never been one to instigate fights himself— always thought about the capabilities he had and never used. all it left was a bitter taste in his mouth.
he knew his father would have something to say about it. that he could just easily use his magic to get to someone before they even got close enough to touch him, about how yujin could be invaluable in deals, how he could become a great example of someone that everyone could learn to fear. yujin’s known enough of that to know that he would never want to be that person to someone else.
“well, first i’d want to know why he even thought that in the first place, if that’s really the case. if he truly doesn’t even know the girl involved, then why is the boyfriend even challenging him? then it feels more like an ego thing then even anything to do with the other guy. it could be something he fabricated himself— i think the mind twists things to look certain ways sometimes, even if it isn’t real. so he’s drunk, so he saw this other guy and maybe had a moment of insecurity. but instead of.. dealing with it himself, he took it out on his environment,” yujin reasons, and he tilts his head towards the bartender when he happens to catch his eye, pushing his glass towards him for another refill.
he directs his gaze to her for a moment, humming a little to himself. “and there’s another thing. i mean— how do you know all of that? i can’t hear what they’re saying too well, honestly, over the music. do you know him or do you just like getting involved when you see a little bit of trouble?”
yujin muses, and looks over when he hears the drink being set back near him, thanking the bartender and picking it up, taking another sip and looking over to her a moment later.
“either way, i feel like there’s a lot more here than meets the eye. and to hit a nerve, really, with anyone while they’re drunk, is as easy as looking in the wrong direction. just like it was with him in the first place, when he picked a fight with that other man,” he shrugs a little here, setting his glass back down and looking towards them again.
“so you could say anything and make it worse. he’s already chosen that path tonight. i think anything would make him mad at this point, but the conversation is already derailed enough. i mean, look at his girlfriend, she looks like she wants to intervene, maybe she’ll go and get someone to help break it up soon, if someone else hasn’t already. i might.. say something to the bartender, at least, unless they stop talking on their own. i mean, i feel kind of worse for her, honestly, that her partner would do something like that because of his own ego.. or if he didn’t even trust her enough to make up things like that. she deserves better,” yujin finishes, and he realizes he’s probably been talking quite a lot, but when he’s a few drinks in, it tends to happen. and she had asked him what he thought about it, even if he did derail it quite a bit into another topic.
maybe he would be a bit more perceptive if he hadn’t drank as much as he did already, but he did come here to forget more than anything else.
