thinking and
sits back......
in kashiwa mochi’s line, he says that everything will be alright as long as they can get through the dragon gate. Kashiwa mochi is often eaten on children’s day in Japan, and another one of Japanese children day customs is koinobori, or carp kites!
as you can see, kashiwa mochi has koinobori behind him too!
“鱼跃龙门 “
This proverb means “fish leaping through the dragon gate,” and the origin of the following tale- Chinese legend holds that on top of a huge mountain, with a towering waterfall, there is a dragon gate. It is said that a simple carp can become a dragon, but only if it swims against the river current, climbing up the waterfall, before making the grand leap.
This aligns pretty well with kashiwa’s themes of maturation and growth, as he starts out dependent and sheltered with his master attendant, but after the death of his master attendant, he decides to become independent. He sets off on his own path to become stronger and so that he wouldn’t repeat such a scenario. either way tho
BECOME A DRAGON KASHIWA I BELIEVE IN YOU CROSS THAT GATE!!
Wouldn't it be a twist if it turned out the Whiskey played the role of detective in the new event? If he is the perpetrator it'd be insanely obvious.
I could honestly see that! out of all of the characters we see in that pv, whiskey is the only food soul we have seen in the past, so it would make sense for whiskey to be our point of view character to this new and unfamiliar setting
but then again….. if he is the detective, i could very well see him turning out to the perp all along and just playing everyone as well….. hm…..
pRETZEL???
yes apparently not only did we get our favorite garbage vampire trash man, we also get the delight know as Pretzel, or 普雷结, his chinese name.
He can be seen during the event for Bloody Mary!
While it’s not confirmed whether or not he’s actually a Food Soul or not, I want to take this post to explore some of his design- namely, his whole homage to Christian priests and stuff
you can clearly see that there’s pretzels all over his design, from his belts and armor for starters, and you can likely find more, as these were just the ones I picked out quickly
You might be wonder, like I was, why make Pretzel a badass priest???? Aren’t pretzels more like a circus and carnival time food????
Well apparently, pretzels are actually incredibly significant in Christianity- Many origin stories of Pretzels usually involve a Christian background and monks. One book written 610 AD holds that they were created by Italian monks to reward children for learning their prayers (although this is likely not true, with no evidence backing it up)
Pretzels also have religious significance to the Christian church for both their ingredients and shapes- The knot have been claimed to represent hands in prayers and the three holes to represent the Holy Trinity- The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Since pretzels could be made using only flour and water, it could be eaten during Lent, when Christians can’t eat eggs, lard, and dairy. In time, pretzels became associated with Lent and Easter!
(This is largely associations drawn from southern Germany, where many believe it to have originated)
Given the heavy significance of Pretzel to the Christian religion, it’s quite interesting that the food fan devs decided to take his design away from the American perception of pretzels as a street food to a less commonly known one!
(also i wanna see pretzel and bloody mary make out)
Whomst is this guy
He’s seen during the trailer for the Palata Area, which you can watch here: https://foodfantasyfandom.tumblr.com/post/178204079460/here-is-the-hq-version-of-the-pv
This post will be speculating on what exactly he may be- it’s still not known yet if he is a Food Soul or not
I’ll begin with looking at his design- one interesting thing I wanna quickly mention is that he has the same symbol on both his sword and dog tag. Hell if I know what any of these means but never the less, quite neat!
What’s most interesting to me is the “Pipi” right there on his jacket. Upon further research, I found that “Pipi” was actually a type of mollusk endemic to New Zealand, but can also be found in Australia! The word Pipi is a Maori word, and are a traditional food source for the Maori. They’re often boiled and made into fritters, as well as being used for the clams in clam chowder!
from an aesthetic point, his design does fit the pipi dish- a dark brown exterior, and a pale interior, as well as the red and green accents (from seasoning and spices) found all over.
INTERESTING SIDE NOTE: Pipis are extremely popular among Australia’s Chinese population and many Chinese actually travel down to Australia to go hunting for pipis! There have been however concerns about the overharvesting of them in the past few years...
“But Chewy,“ I hear you say, “Why does this dude have a skeleton hand???? what does anything about oysters or pipi have to do with spooky skeletons??“
Well, allow me to explain how exactly oysters form: usually when oyster larvae are old enough, they will develop a foot to help them crawl around until they find a suitable surface, anywhere with calcium carbonate. Upon finding an appropriate location, they will secrete a glue to attach themselves to it, and begin feeding from the water and filtering out calcium carbonate to further grow their shell. This is why for something like tortoise shells, which are a part of a turtle’s skeleton, are organic, while clam and oyster shells are mostly composed of just calcium carbonate and assorted minerals, and only the tiniest bit of protein too.
The skeleton hand may be a reference to the oyster’s growth cycle (with the whole calcium and all) and without going full on shell like they did with Escargot lmao
(this is a bit of a theory, but in Beer’s backstory, at one point, he describes finding an injured Food Soul and nursing him back to health, much to the Food Soul’s chagrin. The Food Soul is called Oysters, and Pipi is a type of oyster.... Pipi and Oysters could possibly be the same Food Soul? From how Beer describes him, as a young adult, he seems to fit the description well enough. He also has a scar on his eye as well as bandages on his hand, which may have come from the same injuries that Beer found him suffering from. It’s all speculation in the end however.)
I might be completely wrong though, so take all of this as a massive boulder of salt- I’m still not sure if he would be called FF Pipi or FF Oysters if that tells you anything about my certainty abt all of this lol
Alright. Pipi: white hair. Boston: white hair Rice: white hair. takeaway: scientists at the lab hadn't yet figure out pigments simulacra back then. Theory: all the experimental ffs of this period had white hair.
okay deadass??? that’s a really cool theory and would make illustrating any of the scenes from boston or rice’s backstories a hecka lot easier and more thematically appropriate (although, it’s been noted that food souls re made from the same dream energy that fallen angels are made from, not like lab grown bodies so maybe the refinement process is just weird or maybe we’re all wrong)
but then again.....
there’s also no reason why they should be able to simulate pigments in eyes but not hair, but eh
****puts thinking hat on****
i wonder why unagi has a scar on his eye......
🅱️ruffle.......
