Finnrey Short: high school crush
“There she is.” Finn whispered to his friend, nodding his head toward the girl on the other side of the class room.
“That’s her!?” Poe attempted to whisper back. They were in the back of class but you could never be too careful. “She’s in my gym class man. That girl takes dodge ball too seriously.” he said rubbing the bruise on his arm.
Finn compressed his laughter. “Yeah but she’s cute though. Smart too, just doesn’t speak up much.”
“Just be careful buddy. That’s Rey Skywalker. She’s related to that one kid that got kicked out last year. Ben or was it Kyle?”
“Those are two completely different names Poe.”
“Well whatever. The point is that girl is dangerous territory Finn.”
“Yeah,” Finn said, looking back to the girl. “But I like danger.”
“I DEMAND SILENCE!” the teacher yelled, slapping his ruler on the desk.
Finn and Poe gave a quick apology. When their teacher went to collect the broken pieces of the ruler, they went back to their whispered conversation.
“Man I hate that guy.” Finn whispered.
“Everybody does. What’s his name again?”
“Hux, or something. I don’t know who cares.”
Suddenly the bell rang and the kids ran out of the class as if they were escaping prison. Finn ran to catch up with Rey.
“Hey Rey. I’m Finn.” he greeted, trying to keep up with her pace.
“Hi.” she said as she kept walking.
Finn was at a loss of words but he didn’t give up. He had finally worked up the nerve to talk to this girl and he wasn’t about to chicken out.
“So you’re on the basketball team. I saw your game last week, you were great.”
“Thanks.” Rey muttered, avoiding eye contact.
“Yeah I hated that I missed the second half, my dad has an auto shop and I had too...”
Rey brought them to an immediate stop.
“You know how to work on cars?”
“Uh, yeah.”
Rey looked down and shuffled her feet. “I never met a mechanic before.”
The heat rushed to Finn’s face in record time. The crush in all his classes that he finally talked to was now impressed. He had to keep it going.
“Yeah well this is, me...Wait that didn’t come out right.”
Rey laughed, not in an insulting way, it actually helped Finn relaxed.
“Well Finn. Um, what are you doing after school? I was gonna shoot some hoops.”
“Oh cool I’d like that. But I’ll have you know, I’m a big deal on the court.”
“We’ll see about that.”
