my last attempt at playing ffxiv i quit because i got frustrated with the UI / job system. however my sister has informed me that they're going to update both of those things in the nearish future and that does make me kind of want to pick it up again
after so long of trying i finally got a character on Balmung and the character name i got was even more exciting than getting on the server itself lmao
You know you’re following the right blogs when you dont actually see any drama or salt, but only references to said drama and salt.
Unpopular opinion but I am now WAY more excited to try BLU than I was last week. It sounds like something I will have fun with; and while I’m unfamiliar with the feel of the job first hand (never touched it in ffxi) I get what theyre going for. I had friends level BLU and say exploring and learning magic was a big draw-in for them. Honestly, and this is me talking outside-looking-in, i dont see how it would work traditionally? Not the way FFXIV is set up. They found a way to do it, imo, and Im now on board to give it a shot.
And I see lots of people bringing up BST and PUP and...yes! Same deal with those jobs! Theres a reason BST was a ‘solo’ job in ffxi. They didnt mesh with the party dynamic. Sure they were setup the same way but that was a different environment and, again my opinion, it really wasnt a good solution.
And somewhere deep down in my gut i wish they did something like this for SMN. I accepted a long time ago its never going to be the same as ffxi smn but god damn if they did this sorta thing back then 1) we woulda expected this much sooner and 2) i’d probably enjoy my own main 100% more
So yea people are always going to be salty no matter what happens. Dont like it, dont play it. Or give it a chance, you might like it. Just accept that some folks like to be upsetti spaghetti
I've seen quite a few posts online since the last PLL with most people complaining about the 7.3 trailer being boring, and since I noticed these people were from NA like I am and obviously frustrated with the voiceover direction like I am, I decided to watch the trailer in Japanese. I can understand the language well enough, so why the heck not, right?
There are some Dawntrail spoilers ahead, so the rest of my thoughts are under the cut.

The difference is night and day. From the first few seconds, even.
To compare, I think the English direction was confusing. The opening narration sounded like a bored NPC saying some exposition. I've watched the trailer a few times since release and it never occurred to me that the voice wasn't human. In fact, at first I thought it was Shale under mind control and I got pissed cause I like that character and I don't want her to get got by the bad guys, y'know?
Even though I am not *fluent* in Japanese, their version of the voiceover was exactly how I would expect creepy dystopian propaganda on a TV ad to sound, and that's also how I finally realized that the voice was supposed to be synthetic. It's not necessarily a narrator, and probably isn't even human.
Setting aside how dirty the English voiceover direction is doing poor Wuk Lamat, I also want justice for Calyx. His English voiceover is just so, so bad. I wish I could be a fly on the wall whenever they decided to cast a regular schmegular dude and tell him all he has to do to collect his paycheck is just say every line like it's his turn to read aloud from the textbook in his 10th grade history class.
The JP actor understood the assignment (heh) but I think it's also as simple as having better casting, a better director, and a better actor. As much as I love to wear my tinfoil hat and wish to be a fly on the wall for these discussions, reality is often a lot less exciting and vindicating.
I think that if the acting is all it takes for me to feel one way or another about the story, then people don't need to panic as much as they are on the official forums or social media or whatever. We're definitely gonna make it out of patch 7.3 alive and it might even be a better experience for a lot of people if they just turn the sound off and listen to a D&D ambience playlist instead. The best part about curating your own playlist is that you can leave Machinations out of it!
In conclusion, I'm gonna spend the weekend chilling out and playing other games because I'm probably gonna go live on the moon after I finish the MSQ. I wanna get that Taster of Stars title before we go to the next location in 7.3x or whatever they said it was.
