Say hello to the next generation of Arduino boards! (vía Arduino Blog » )
Back to Middle School!
I don't know what possessed me but I volunteered to go back to middle school! Today I was a guest speaker at my daughter's school. They have some lessons on climate change and climate justice - which is basically my life - so I came and talked to my daughter's science class. Here's how I looked this morning.
I was nervous. I mean what could go wrong. Middle school - nothing ever went wrong in middle school. Nothing awkward ever happened in my own middle school experience. Everybody I know remembers their middle school life as a calm amazing period. Seriously though - I was nervous and barely slept. In the end, it all worked out and most importantly my daughter gave me a passing grade on my performance. As far as I can remember this was my best middle school experience.
Tried to keep the day magical and add some creativity and worked with my buddy Quinn on his instrument the Q-Ray.
He had a new board and he had to get the software running with it. Brushed off my 25 year old C++ skills and we got the new model basically working. It's a satisfying feeling getting software and hardware working together - add making music and definitely a feeling of accomplishment for the day. It was an exhausting day... hard to put in to words all the other ups and downs... but definitely a day you can sit down when you get in from the blistering cold weather and say without a doubt I put it all out there and it was worth it.

ACL Digital provides a comprehensive set of full-flow IC design services to reinforce semiconductor and systems companies in delivering IC, SoC, ASIC, or FPGA projects.
These services range from a full turnkey solution that provides a production-ready design to a sub-system, IP block development, or staff augmentation mode.
Radiation-tolerant (RadTol) NOR Flash memory products are qualified to MIL-PRF-38535’s QML-V flow and delivers superior, low-pin count, single-chip solution for applications such as FPGA configuration, image storage, microcontroller data, and boot code storage. The devices are radiation-tolerant up to 30krad (Si) biased and 125krad (Si) unbiased.

Read the full article
Be a homebrew computer designer, it's fun :)
Ever wondered how FPGA works? This may help.
neat article on evolutionary circuit design, with fgpas. as expected designs demonstrate lack of modularity in structure, and use of what would be unhelpful in usual human designs, e.g. exploiting signal crosstalk in this case. overly narrow response to environment is interesting also. would be nice if I could find more comments by the comp neuroscientist mentioned.
i "originally" got the article from here, apparently a site that helps people make those fucking email forwards. linking because it's still on the live web.
