I shouldn’t have returned here again, to witness what I still find hard to accept the first time, but... one must do what seems impossible, sometimes...
What’s to come...
It can’t be real... can it? To see such a sight, such a horrendous, torturous sight...
She shot up from beneath the tree she found to sleep beneath in the Mage quarters, her head spinning as she grasped her forehead in her palm. A cold sweat took her over, still able to smell the smoke on her garment as she stared down at the singed material. She had hoped that it was simply a nightmare, one that wouldn’t have to be repeated for days, weeks, months... centuries to come...
Things weren’t as hectic this morning, as it seemed many refugees had slowed their trickle into the safety of Stormwind’s walls. She leaned back against the tree she claimed as her temporary place of rest, taking out a small linen cloth and wiping her face of the sweat from her horrific nights rest.
“RUN! GET TO THE TEMPLE!”
“Mommy! Where are you?! I can’t.. I can’t see!!!”
The cries... the screams and the death.. burning, blinding ash and smoke, it was everywhere... I had been sent into the chaos some time after the initial bombs were sent hurling towards my beloved World Tree, and so many were still frantically finding themselves, or at least... trying to find those of their families before having to evacuate solo.
I flew as many to the temple as I could, as fast as possible... I healed where I could to those who were in peril of dying before my eyes, making sure they had the strength to make it to safety and to be tended to upon making their way to the Temple of the Moon.. by Elune’s grace, how could this be happening...!
A child was screaming every so often, mostly for their mother or a family member.. I’d try and locate them, but each time, I’d lose their distinct cry to another, then to masses of outbursts as parts of my beloved tree would topple atop of our beautiful buildings and establishments... then there’d be silence before more outbursts. The massacre, the bloodshed... and for what...
The smoke was becoming more than I could bear, finding it hard to continue flying others out, only to lose my strength and fall to the ground, feeling the pain of the world all around me as I came in contact to the surface of my home. It was excruciating, filling me with incredible sadness and emptiness, and a tremendous sense of loss...
Ash, smoke, debris... it filled my lungs, tore at my senses and confused my direction... I had blacked out...
“Miss? Are... are you alright?”
Having dazed off in remembering the assault on my first venture into the World Tree, a nearby group of Priestess’ approached me with a canteen of water, holding it out to me. So many refugees were coming in, hour by hour... I didn’t expect such horrific acts so soon after the end of the Legion conflict... why this... why now?
“Y... yes, I’m alright... thank you, Priestess...” Accepting the offer of a cool drink, and hurriedly gulping it down, it dribbled against my lips and slipped down my chin and neck, staining my garment... but one would have a hard time knowing if it was the water offered that stained my garments, or the tears that I had been shedding the entire time...
