Masâ thoughts no one asked for.
So, the most recent lil cinematic confirmed a lot of what people, myself included, predicted for the story.
Saurfang was ready to die. He was ready to walk out there, no armor and no weapons, and face his death. Why? Because after what Sylvanas did he saw the death of the horde. There was no honor in what she had done, no glory, nothing the Horde stands for. It was a massacre of innocents, and seeing it happen made Saurfang give up on the Horde, hence why he burned the talisman.
Zappy Boy, as he has been named, was a young and naive thing. He knew nothing of war, it was going to be his first battle, and he was asking this Orc who had seen SO much what he should do. He looked up to this man, and when he saw Saurfang going to die he did not hesitate to walk with him. Why? Because he was prepared to follow his hero. His own personal âwarchiefâ.
This is what turned Saurfang around. When Zappy showed him the burned talisman, that moment summed up to me the turn Blizz is taking with the Horde. That item represents the Horde in current state. It is charred, burned, a fragment of what it used to be because of what Sylvanas has done. But itâs -still there-.
This boy, Zappy, represents the -true- Horde. The ideals that the Horde are based off, that this is family. To some of them, itâs the only family they have left, or ever knew. The Horde is -not- Sylvanas and her thirst for power and death. Itâs Zappy, and all who are like him.
This is why Saurfang turned back to join the fight. Because he realized that though the Horde is currently broken and scarred, like that talisman, it is still -there-. Somewhere, buried under all the dishonor and death, there is still true Horde. Thatâs what he fights for, and thatâs why he decided to go back and join the battle.
Itâs the turn the Horde needed, and a great build into BfA. It establishes a fantastic dialogue of what it truly means to be Horde. Do you follow a woman who has proven she does not care for honor but only cares to slaughter? Or, like Saurfang, do you find the true meaning of Horde once more and bring them back to a force of honor, glory, and above all unity.
Fantastic, I really canât wait to see more. And I main Alliance! But this is great stuff.
Iâll go ahead and say it. Fantastic writing, Blizz. Thank you.
