In a Night of Formality ~ Lady Bug & MacHaggis
Strolling back to his table with a drink in each hand, Fitz slid into his seat beside Darcy and flashed her another quick smile. He had grabbed himself a Coke and whatever it was Darcy asked for, setting it on the table before her. “God, still can’ believe ‘ow lovely ya look. Seriously, Lady Bug. Stunnin’. So I guess I’ll work security tanigh’. Make sure no one oversteps tha bounds with ya... I got an ICER in ma waistban’, y’know.”
He grinned at her, bumping her shoulder with his. Leo had never felt more lucky to have Darcy as his friend, And based on the looks she was already starting to receive, Leo was thanking his foresight for the gun. He would have to put a lot of fellas out of the misery when she shot them down.
“So I guess in honor o’ this formal nigh’, I’ll have ta call ya something else- somethin’ beyond Lady Bug.” He rubbed at his jaw, thinking over the options before snapping his fingers. “I got this! Tonight, you’re Mad’m Lady Bug. I shall be Sir Machaggis. Boom.” He clapped his hands together, winking towards his friend. He enjoyed teasing her too much to be serious.
Woke up New || Kaz and Open
Kaz stood off to the side of the reception hall, watching the wedding guests dance and interact and pretending like being at Captain America and Iron Man’s wedding wasn’t the biggest deal in the entire world. So far, he thought he’d held himself together marginally well, with the help of more than a few shots and a couple of sort-of-familiar faces.
He’d been meeting new people throughout the night, most of them people he’d read about in the news or online. If one was to assume that being a (sort of) member of a superhero team made meeting superheroes less of a deal to Kaz, they’d be wrong. The X-Men, to him, was more of a family than a team. He’d grown up around the majority of the members, gotten to know them as people long before they’d been superheroes. Not that they weren’t all very heroic; they were, of course, but it was hard to get flustered around Iceman once you’d heard Bobby tell his thousandth dad joke.
The Avengers were different, in a lot of ways. Kaz had never heard Captain America tell a cheesy knock-knock joke, and he’d never seen Iron Man trip over his own feet. At the moment, people like that were more hero than human to Kaz, and he knew that that probably wasn’t fair and it probably wasn’t anything that they wanted, but he couldn’t really help it. In all honesty, part of him was more starstruck by the things they said out of costume -- their talks to the press on mutant rights -- than the things they said in costume. It was one thing for mutants to stand up for their own rights, but it Kaz had always admired humans who did it, too. Particularly heroes that did it.
Now, after speaking to a few of them, his heart wasn’t racing quite as quickly anymore. It was still way faster than usual, of course, but he figured it was a compromise. He’d managed a conversation with Sam Wilson (the fucking Falcon, holy shit) and even danced with a couple people before heading back to the bar to get some of his courage restored. He was sipping on a cocktail now, shaking his head at how unreal this all still felt. Someone came and stood beside him, and he glanced at them out of the corner of his eye.
“For the record,” he said, taking a swig of his drink, “this is all seriously cool.”
Sweet Dream || Open
Lucy sat at the table, looking like a million dollars and feeling like she’d been overdrawn.
She saw Sam dancing with the Black Widow, and she was too tired to feel jealous of how beautiful they looked together. They were teammates, and Sam was an honest kind of man -- he’d tried to make sure everything was just right with her before he went out to dance.
And any other day she’d have danced at least once with him to show everyone that they were together, but tonight she was just too tired. Everything in the past month had just been too exhausting, and with all of the abuse she’d put her body through, she needed a night to just relax.
Which was not happening as she sat there, the built-in support of her dress sitting awkwardly against her ribs, curbing her appetite as it did. She picked at her cake as she talked to the person next to her, but eventually she had to excuse herself to go to the bathroom. She’d drank a little more champagne than she’d realized.
On her way back, she noticed someone sat down at her spot, but she didn’t have the energy to be mad. Instead, she found a spot on a balcony (presumably for those who smoked) and she took a breath of clean air. Not one had been out there yet.
That changed when she heard someone walk out behind her.
“Come out for some air as well?”
Wedding Bells | Bucky + Open
God Bucky was so thankful for his speech to be over. He was nervous for the fact that best man speeches are supposed to be something grand. He didn’t exactly know if grand was the word his described, but he knew he had a feeling he did something right – something good for once.
Going back to his seat, he finished off the drink thankful for the burn down his throat. He took a moment to sit by himself to actually see what was going on around him. People were laughing, talking, everyone had this addicting smile and light airy environment. Honestly he was sure this was one of those 1920s parties he saw in that Gatsby movie.
Just about too soon for his liking, someone had interrupted his peace. He knew he should’ve gone to Steve the moment the speech ended because honestly the man looked like he was barely holding it together at his last part. And he was going too, just a little bit later once he and Steve had a time to calm down because tears weren’t going to happen. Bucky was going to make sure of it. “Be honest with me, how was that speech?”
Social Butterfly | Open
Darcy wasn’t sure when exactly the carters would start serving out dinner, but it hardly mattered. Between all the champagne, the music, and being surrounded by all her friends, she was having to much fun to be hungry or at least to notice whether she was hungry or not. She had been content to sit at her assigned table for a total of five minutes at the start of the reception, warming up with a little bit of easy mingling with the others around table 11. Then inevitably, she had caught sight of other familiar faces and Darcy hadn’t been back in her seat yet.
Time flew by without much notice as she became the proverbial social butterfly, moving swiftly throughout the reception hall, from one friend to another, following the sounds of familiar laughter to clue her in to who was where. Even now, as she sat with her arm looped through Leo’s, she could hear Thor’s hearty chuckle from across the room. Darcy casted a quick glance in his direction, hoping to catch his eye and wave him over, but figured that might take too long. “Be right back,” she told Leo before skipping off towards Thor.
As she neared, Darcy could hear the words to one of Thor’s favourite battle stories. With her eyes set on the tall blonde several tables away, she didn’t see the immediate wedding guest making their way into her path. “Sorry!” She cried out as she collided with them, her arms reflexively reaching out to steady both the other person and herself.
Champagne Taste|| Open || Wedding Reception
Tony laughed. He seemed to be doing that a lot tonight. Pressed against Steve’s side, their hands laced together if only because Tony wanted to feel the ring on Steve’s finger, to trace the smooth metal and know that this was real, this was his, this was happening. He was listening to Steve speak about the music and his new-found pop knowledge (which was quickly surpassing Tony’s own) when Bucky Barnes sidled over to speak with the groom in question. “I’ll fill you up,” Tony said, giving Steve’s hand a small squeeze before he took his glass and left for the bar to give the two friends time to catch up. The man had had one hell of a speech.
He handed both glasses to the bartender for a refill and leaned against the counter while he waited. “Make it the kid stuff,” he said, his focus lost across the room, grinning as he watched Steve laugh, Steve talk, Steve looking happier than Tony had ever seen him. He turned back to the bartender just in time to see the man in question reaching for the bottle of champagne. “No, sorry, yeah, non-alcoholic. Great. You throw an excellent party, by the way.” Tony retrieved both glasses with a small laugh and was about to make his way back to Steve when a guest walking past caught his attention. “Hey,” he said, grinning. “What do you think, party up to snuff?”
A Wedding for the Ages || Open
Peter straightened his tuxedo, one that he’d rented especially for the event. He had his suit under it, and the two fabrics felt interesting against his skin, but Peter couldn’t take the chance that something wouldn’t happen.
He’d gotten the cure a few days after it had come out, and so for the first time in weeks he felt like he could actually breathe deeply. That didn’t mean that he’d be doing any dances -- he would be too embarrassed -- but he was milling around, talking to people and generally at least trying to be social. He took a glass of champagne (even though he was still a bit away from 21) and started looking around for people he knew.
Before he sipped, he raised a glass in Tony and Steve’s direction, wherever they were at the moment. After everything that had happened, they -- of all people he knew -- deserved happiness in each other.
He jostled someone’s arm as he did that, though, and immediately jumped back.
“Sorry!”
