Everyone's Talking About— Pinch Hits?

FIAB has over three hundred creators this year, and all of those creators are having life happen to them. Sometimes, life gets busy, or computers break, or what have you and the original creators have to tell the mods that they won't be able to get their assignment done in time. This is an expected part of the process, but it means that there are assignments with no one assigned to create to them. Together with assignments that weren't able to be covered during matching (the only person who could create for Fandom A was Creator X, but Creator X was assigned to cover Fandom B, where they were also the only person offering that fandom, etc.,) the way the mods make sure that everyone has a gift is to put these assignments with no creators up for Pinch Hits. The assignments get posted on a central page, and then people who want to take on an extra assignment volunteer to cover them.

Not everyone can take up 10k of an assignment— and sometimes the original creator was able to cover some of the assignment but not all of it, or had to drop when they only had a swap— so FIAB does pinch hits in 1k-increments. You will see a pinch hit like "PH 56 - 3k - The Pitt (TV), Andor (TV), The Musketeers (2014), Inception (2010), Succession (TV 2018), Conclave (2024), Original Work", and you click through to get more details, and hmmm, yes, that looks like something you can do, and you think to yourself— well I'm pretty busy right now, but I bet I can do 1k of Inception (2010)— and you can inform the mods that you'll take 1k, and then the mods will update the post saying that they're just looking for 2k now. Any increment down to 1k and up to 10k is welcome and helpful!

All of the current pinch hits can be found in this tag, on the Dreamwidth blog. If you want to pick one up (or some part of one up), you can either email the mods at [email protected], or you can comment directly on the post the Pinch Hit is listed in. In your comment or email the mods will need to know 1) the amount of wordcount you would like to claim, 2) the exact username of the AO3 account you will be posting your fill(s) from, and 3) an email where the mods can reach you. You don't need to have a dreamwidth account to comment, you can comment anon!

We currently have 20 pinch hits we're still looking for creators for. And at this stage of the event we post pinch hits about once a week, which will increase as we get closer to the deadline, so you can check back for more if nothing strikes your fancy right now. If you're looking for an extra challenge, keep an eye on the tag!
