BlackRock Agrees To Acquire Global Infrastructure Partners (“GIP”), Creating A World Leading Infrastructure Private Markets Investment Platform
An agreement has been announced by BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) to purchase Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) for approximately 12 million shares of BlackRock common stock and $3 billion in cash. In the upcoming years, the $1 trillion infrastructure sector is expected to grow at a high pace inside the private markets. Several long-term structural trends encourage an acceleration in infrastructure investment, including rising global demand for enhanced digital infrastructure, investments in logistical hubs, and a focus on decarbonization and energy security.
With a wide range of international business connections, BlackRock seeks to spearhead infrastructure initiatives that will improve results for communities throughout the world and produce long-term financial benefits for customers. It is anticipated that the acquisition of GIP, a preeminent independent infrastructure investor, will establish an all-encompassing worldwide infrastructure franchise with unique origination and asset management competencies.
With a combined valuation of over $150 billion, the combined company aims to provide industry-leading infrastructure knowledge in the areas of finance, equity, and solutions on a sizable scale. The agreement will use GIP's exclusive origination and business improvement capabilities and BlackRock's worldwide corporate and sovereign relationships. It is anticipated that the integration will offer a platform for broad, varied sourcing to assist client co-investment prospects and transaction flow.
Founded in 2006, GIP specializes in the energy, transportation, water and waste, and digital sectors and oversees more than $100 billion in client assets spanning infrastructure finance and equity. The merged infrastructure platform will be run by the GIP management team, which is headed by Bayo Ogunlesi and the four original partners. Since its founding in 2011, BlackRock has expanded both organically and inorganically, providing a range of infrastructure investment alternatives and amassing over $50 billion in infrastructure client AUM.

Then she schedules the visit two weeks from now, which is, again, weird. I don’t get…
