Roses Where Thorns grow - Fic Patching
Following the completion of this story I’ve been going back through and giving it some extra love. This encompasses everything from your standard spelling and grammar repair all the way up to complete chapter re-writes (the earliest ones are in dire, dire need of it - some were originally posted without any real editing). As I go I’ll be reblogging this post with my progress, so if you’re up for a re-read you can follow along!
Roses Where Thorns Grow: Version 1.3 - June 3rd, 2021 > Patch Notes
Chapter one - Main character’s name is now prominently mentioned. Paragraphs no longer appear multiple times in a row with the wording slightly rearranged. Internal monologues have been streamlined for readability. Oblique mentions of character backstory added. Various small fixes: reduction of unnecessary punctuation, word replacement, flow correction. 15-20% of the chapter completely rewritten. Given a title: “In Another World”
Chapter two - Significant context added: characters no longer appear to be in a deep friendship after barely having met. Observations now reflect the current situation. Chapter now has an overarching theme. Personality matrices significantly beefed. Word count doubled. Given a title: “The Lovers”
Chapter three - Behavioural bootcamp: main character can no longer be mistaken for a toddler. Conversation trees now connect to appropriate answers. Paragraphs no longer diverge from set paths. Author’s notes accidentally left in place for five years have been moved to the “author’s note” section. Melodrama reduced by 25%. Sexual tension raised by 15%. 90% of dialogue rewritten. Wandering POV character reassigned. Given a title: “Sharpest Tooth”
Current word count: 298′528 (original: 296′186)
(I’d like to give this a better summary than the stand-in that’s been there since day one, so if anyone has any suggestions on a blurb or a highlight that they like and would work please let me know!)
