So, like many in the U.S. I'm not doing great.

To be clear, I am as safe as one can be in these times. But like many of us, I'm exhausted, I am struggling to maintain a sense of self.

It's hard to try to be creative when it feels like survival is taking everything you have. But I want to try.

I've made this. With some new fics, and some long unfinished ones. I'm going to see what I can manage to do this year.

Any support or kindness you can offer would be appreciated. And if there's something I forgot, let me know. If you have questions, I'll try to answer them.

Recent Mel fanfic is sooooooo good seriously one of the best Mel pieces I’ve read. I’m sure it’ll be a minute for part two so I will be here patiently waiting. You have a gift!

think about the family man ryker concept and about your other (amazing!!) fics, i cant help but combining it with the idea of "hold out your hands" and hiccup being ignored and left alone a lot as a child. its all "in the past" by the time of rtte, mainly because hiccup is far away from berk, but hiccup still has the scars, chronic pain, still struggles with understanding that people are talking with him instead of to him.

maybe he's negotiating with ryker and viggo and using his right hand to write, but he's having a flare-up, his hand is shaking, and his handwriting it noticeable worse. the hunters ask if he's nervous, hiccup doesn't even know what to say.

(i headcanon that a lot of grimborns, like canon viggo, are left-handed or ambidextrous. maybe one of ryker's kids is too, so they dont care.)

and maybe during this negotiation, hiccup refuses to take any food or drink, he keeps a keen eye on the exit, he never loses either brother out of sight, he's ready. meanwhile, to the hunter culture, negotiations like this are treated with utmost respect, it's their honor and reputation on the line, yknow. if they do anything to the heir of berk, no one will ever negotiate with them again, their business will take a massive hit, let alone the difficulties with trade they'll face after that!

Absolutely I’m gonna find a way to incorporate aspects of what I wrote into Hold Out Your Hands, that is such a wonderful idea to toss into the family man Ryker fic I’m gonna write (which, I have decided this morning upon titling that fic and just hoping for a different refrain. Shortened to just different refrain when I wanna refer to it quickly)

Love that idea of Hiccup in a flare up during a negotiation where he’s signing something with his right hand; consider, however, a scenario where after seeing Hiccup use his right hand for most things, he finally slips up and uses his left hand to do something in front of them because it’s what feels more natural to him despite the discomfort of the worse pain in that hand. Perhaps it’s pointed out, and then it’s discovered by Ryker and/or Viggo that it was something he had been punished for and they’re just wondering what the fuck is wrong with Berk.

I wanna write a BDSM fic. Been toying with the idea for a year already. Aaaarg I wanna write too many things at the same time but the year is too short!

I'm starting the vacation one shot of Hearts of Mirrors. I should also start on book 2.

But this BDSM fic man it's nagging at meeee

BDSM has always been my favorite genre to read and I read so many in other fandoms. I kinda want to do my own spin on it even if I am not a total expert on the subjet (I could do research).

It would be JK POV too which I haven't done yet. And Jimin would be the dom 🤭

The vibe is so strong you have no idea ~ this club is so vivid in my mind.

Honestly I'll see if after the one shot I'll start book two or start this one instead, I'm still hesitating. I'll pick in the moment!

Considerations for Miyana's future in the Different Paths universe:

I really think she and Karim are Bad For Each Other and should be kept far apart. I've already started his end of that story in Karim Goes To Therapy (which needs renamed, it's grown a whole extra plot), because frankly he was introduced first on my rewatch and I haven't caught up to her mannerisms as much to write her yet.

However, from what I do know and remember about her: she's just as racist as Karim is. She wants Janai off the throne just as much, if not more, than he does - and has wanted that longer. So she's equally awful, but more conniving, with more patience, and she's willing to play the long game. However, when it came down to it and her children were at risk, she was willing to take concessions to keep them safe and free, if not in power.

So, in the interests of not woobifying a genuinely awful woman but also not acting like women are irredeemable:

Still keep her and Karim apart. She may make a pass, because political advantages to having the prince in her pocket, but she fails. She turns her attention to other people in power, her peers. She finds some other powerful, manipulatable man, and starts building her plan slowly.

Except, then things change for the better around her. Since she and Karim aren't colluding to undermine his sister, since Karim and Janai are communicating better, everything isn't falling apart, they don't get the kind of support she was trying to get. She keeps facing setbacks, keeps gritting her teeth and moving cautiously, always cautiously.

She still gets to have kids. She doesn't even lose her power in this version. She just slowly loses her chances at the throne. She's forced to be content with what she has, and slowly watching her kingdom leave her behind. Her children grow up into a more accepting world than she planned, and she gets the choice Janai gave her in canon much, much later - lose her children, or lose her attachment to the past and her power grab. It's not so harsh as in canon - she's just smart enough to realize her children are distancing themselves from her because of her radical conservative behavior, and she'll lose her personal relationships with them if she doesn't cut it out.

She still chooses her children.
