Welcome to our Check, Please! fic reading club!
We’re excited for you to join us and read fic together!
Our main platform is Discord (Fic, Please!), but we will be posting schedule-related announcements here on this tumblr, so give us a follow!
Here are our guidelines:
Who are we? We are a Check, Please! fic reading club which takes place over a designated Discord server.
What do we read? The club will center around the main Check, Please! ships (Jack/Bitty, Nursey/Dex, Holster/Ransom). Rarepair months will be considered and would be announced in advance.
Who can participate? Anyone 18+ years of age (as we might be reading explicit works).
How do we choose fics?
Mods will post criteria (ship/length/other) and occasionally monthly theme (monthly themes may also be suggested by other members in the future).
Members can then anonymously suggest fic ideas that fit the criteria following the instructions on the Fic Suggestions channel.
Once the suggestions list is closed, members will be given a few days to anonymously vote via Google Forms for the fic they want to read.
The fic with the most votes will be the one read by the club.
Fics may be suggested multiple times until chosen.
How does it work?
We aim to read one long fic (50k+) or two shorter one (~25k-50k) per month. Mods will post a reading schedule divided weekly by chapters/sections.
Members are invited and encouraged to comment, interpret or react to the fic on the reading-reactions channel. Discussion questions (for inspiration) will be posted in advance for each fic.
Members who prefer to read the fic in one go or are ahead of the reading schedule can use the Spoilers channel to discuss their reading.
If the chosen fic was written by a club member, they’re asked not to comment during the reading, as to not influence other people’s interpretations of the work (and they can be assigned a different reading if they wish!)
At the end of each month the club will gather for a group discussion of the fic.
If possible, a conversation with the author will also be scheduled, so members can ask the author questions about the fic or the writing process directly.
Generally:
We trust members to keep their discussion constructive and respectful. Ship/fic bashing will not be tolerated.
Participation in the club is a low-key commitment! Members are free to drop in and out as they please, participate or comment as little or as much as they please.
Members are also be encouraged to comment on the month’s chosen fic on AO3!
