It was the happiest Elena had felt since losing Bonnie. Having no real good memories of Damon and not knowing that she had ever loved him - his absence didn’t matter to her. Her good mood was thanks, in part, to Ric. She didn’t know he had taken her memories away, but she did know that he had been nice enough to listen to her and watch her cry over the loss of her best friend, Bonnie.

There was something else there, too, and Elena had been trying to get up the nerve to do something about it. It had taken her a while, but she finally convinced herself to walk into Ric’s office at the school. “Hey,” she said, tapping on the wall of the doorway. “Got a minute?”
