as stated in an earlier post, I will be making a few posts throughout the day to spotlight one of my stories, chosen at random by a picker wheel. these spotlights will include story link, summary, and a little Q&A about that particular story. additional questions or comments from readers are welcome.
Summary:
Blaine Anderson is the frontman for the hottest new band around, Breaking Stereotypes. Kurt Hummel is a fashion columnist at Vogue, who is also working on getting his Masters Degree in Fashion Design at Parsons.
When Blaine finds Kurt’s portfolio in the back of a taxi, he is captivated by all the incredible designs in it, and takes it upon himself to return it, hoping to commission a few of the designs from him.
During their first meeting, Blaine finds out that Kurt isn’t a fan of Breaking Stereotypes, nor does he have any clue who Blaine actually is.
Q&A under the cut:
When was this story written/published? According to my tagged tumblr posts, I started writing this story in April 2017. I worked on it off-and-on until mid-2019, then didn’t touch it again until mid-2023. I worked on it off-and-on until Feb 2024, which is when I started the WALEDP (write a little every day project) word count calendars to force myself to focus and finish the story. Worked on it straight through until it was completed and the first chapter was posted in June 2024. The final chapter was posted in Sept 2024
Was this story written for a fandom event? If so, which one? Nope.
How did you come up with the premise of this story? I’ve always loved reading Klaine fics where one of the guys was famous and the other wasn’t. And I wanted to write a story where Blaine was in a rock band. At the same time I was thinking about that trope where one person is secretly royalty or secretly famous somehow. So I thought I’d combine the two thoughts into one fic.
After that, I just needed to figure out how/why Kurt & Blaine would meet without Blaine revealing his identity. That’s when I came up with the idea for Blaine finding Kurt’s lost portfolio, and contacting him to return it and commission something from him. Then just for fun, I decided it would be a funny twist to have Kurt dislike Blaine’s band and their music, and complain about it to Blaine about it not realizing that Blaine is in the band.
How did you come up with the title of this story? After I came up with the idea for this story, I was trying to come up with names for the band that Blaine is in. And there was a GIF set or meta or something on my tumblr dash about that scene in 2x07 where Kurt, Blaine, and Mercedes are at Breadstix, and after Blaine mentions liking football, Kurt says “way to break the stereotype”; and the wheels in my head started spinning. So I named Blaine’s band “Breaking Stereotypes”, and I named the story after the band.
Tell us a little about your process writing this particular story? As you can probably tell from my answer to the first question, it took a LONG time to get this story written. My problem was that I didn’t have an end to the story in mind when I began writing – all I had was a partial outline; so after I got to a certain point, I just kept going “now what?”. I didn’t know which direction to take the story because I didn’t know what the end goal was. So, I was constantly putting the story aside to work on something else instead. I didn’t figure out the remainder of the story outline until late 2023. But of course, I had a few other fics (the Secret Santa story being the main one) that needed my attention before I could put all my focus on this story. Then I finally began working on it in earnest in Feb 2024 until it was completed and ready to post in June 2024.
Any particular memories or fun facts you wish to share about this story? One fun fact is that the band’s stylist in this story is the same character that was Cooper’s stylist in the story “Christmas Fashion Show ” that I wrote for the 2021 Klaine Advent.
What is your favorite line/passage from this story? This story is over 150k words long; it’s my 3rd longest fic. Choosing just one line/passage is sooo hard. I guess I’ll go with this one –

It feels like the cargo plane again. Feels like someone actually cares about him, and Bucky’s really not sure what do with the emotions it sparks in his chest. He’s also, maybe, just a little too tired to examine it too closely. Lists sideways again, and can’t help the way his head falls on Sam’s shoulder. Sam tenses, briefly, and Bucky worries he’s fucked up again – but then Sam settles back against the couch, exhaling a little amused huff.
“Sleep, Bucky,” he whispers. Sam’s so warm. It’s almost intimate, even though they’re not touching anywhere except head and shoulder. But Sam’s so warm, and it’s closer than Bucky’s been to another human being in, like, seventy years. It feels safe. Comfortable. Sam is there for him, and he doesn’t care that Bucky’s fucked-up brain woke him up in the middle of the night. Bucky exhales, and all the leftover tension sighs out of him. So, he does the only thing he can do. He relaxes down against Sam’s side, closes his eyes, and lets sleep carry him away.
Five times Sam helped Bucky with his nightmares, and the one time Bucky returned the favor.

Lots of us have speculated on Senku’s background and proposed origins for his birth parents and how he ended up getting adopted by Byakuya, ranging from the angsty to the soft. This one strikes a fantastic balance between the two, and while brief (at only 771 words), it’s successful in capturing the heart of Byakuya and Senku’s relationship and creating a warm, slightly melancholy feeling for the reader that leaves a gentle afterthought of love and parental tenderness.
Something the fic made me consider was that really, any speculation about Senku’s birth parents says more about Byakuya than it does about Senku. Senku is a complete person and feels confident in himself and his familial relationships to the point where even if he learned more about his parents, it wouldn’t change his relationship with himself and his dad all that much. But it’s Byakuya who lost a best friend, Byakuya who suddenly became a single father, Byakuya who (if you believe that Senku was an infant when JAXA was recruiting the first time around, which I do) was willing to give up his dream for a tiny baby who needed him.
Interestingly enough it’s also the second time I’ve seen someone headcanon that Senku is part Chinese - ao3 contributor divisiblebyfour mentions in a post I reblogged previously (the one about the daemons) a headcanon of Senku having a Chinese parent.

This character-driven dark!Dramione hits hard right out the gate, dropping readers into a world where the Boy Who Lived didn’t. The pacing grips you right from the very first chapter and does not let go! Mind the tags, but if you’re looking for a Voldemort Wins AU with some slow burn goodness, you definitely want to give this fic a look.
It’s still a WIP, but we at the Guild can attest to the fact that the author is updating frequently, and there’s over 125k words to be getting on with so far!
