I spent 20 minutes this morning thinking about a fic that’s been gone for something like 2 years now. They published 30k-50k words and then took it down to polish it, or something. I don’t really remember anymore. It was such a great budding exploration of growing up in a cult-mentality society and how eerie it is watching the people around the POV character (cTommy) be totally fine with eradicating magic and magic users. Like there’s a scene where Tommy is allowed to come to a witch burning for the first time with his family and is horrified by it, horrified by the people around him, but doesnt know WHY because he has always been taught that this is fine and normal. Also has one of my favorite little clingyduo tropes, where Tubbo is already on the outside of whatever system Tommy is loyal to and it hurts their friendship but Tubbo is still there to catch him when Tommy’s worldview inevitably drops out from under him. This is more common with hero au fics but its a little thing I often enjoy. A play on cTommy’s core trait of loyalty and how it can hurt him while simultaneously being all he has.
