Drabble - Nature Day

So apparently the first saturday of May is the World Naked Gardening Day and someone suggested the idea of Hobbits celebrating it. It was just so tempting...XD

Is not betaed, so as always, if someone spots an error or has a suggestion is more than welcome! I want to improve!

"I think the poor old Maggot has gone out of his mind... he was naked in his garden!" was saying Thorin when closed the small entrance gate of Bag End. Then he looked up at his husband and nearly dropped the grocery baskets he was carrying: Bilbo was watering the horthensias, an usual occupation for him.... except he was completly unclothed! With a gasp Thorin rushed to cover him with his coat but Bilbo jumped. "Thorin! What are you doing?" "Me?? What are YOU doing!" exclaimed the Dwarf finally reaching and landing the coat on Bilbo's shoulders. "Oh! Right... it must seem very strange to you since is your first year in the Shire..." said the Hobbit. "Is there a reason for this... sudden naturism?" asked Thorin more and more confused. "Oh yes! Today is Nature Day! We celebrate spring being more natural or in contact with nature..." "And I thought that I had already seen all your odd traditions..." chuckled Thorin. "Is not different from yours, frankly absurd, celebrations..." replied the Hobbit. And as Thorin raised his eyebrow, he added: "Like the Arts&Crafts Day" "It is a demonstration of our ability in different disciplines..." began to explain Thorin but was interrupted by the Hobbit: "Yes, yes... and now there are at least 15 statue of my figure in Erebor...not embarassing at all..." Then a wicked smile appeared on his face: "Do you want to try?" "What?" asked Thorin naively. But his husband had already grabbed his shirt and successfully unbottoned half open (he could claim a certain experience doing this). "Bilbo, stop!!"  screamed Thorin using his strenght to escape his husband's grab and rush toward the green round door, only to bump into a very displeased and very naked Lobelia Sackville-Baggins.

Drabble - Champion

Inspired by Richard’s tweet about Leicester City’s victory, I wrote a quick drabble imagining Thorin and Frerin (yes, I was bored at work XD). Read it here or on AO3!

"Frerin! Do you realise that it's fucking 6 in the morning over here?!?" has been what he had wanted to say when he picked up the phone.

But he didn't have the time to even open his mouth, that his brother was already yelling: "WE WOOOON!! WE WON!! Well.. not exactly... Chelsea and Tottenham tied, but... WE ARE CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND!" "What...?" replied Thorin, confused. In his defence, he was very tired after two weeks of business travel to have meetings and conferences with the Asian affiliates of Erebor Group.

At the moment he was, in fact, trying to sleep in his hotel room in Beijing. "Thorin. Leicester City. Won. The. Premiere. League." stated Frerin, more quietly. After that, Thorin's brain finally began to process the words  and he grinned, yelling: "Bloody great!!" "Yeah! I've already got two tickets for the final match... do you think Dìs will let us take Fìli and Kìli as well?" asked Frerin. "Don't know... maybe if we ask very nicely?" replied Thorin, now completely awake. "Also, do you remember our little bet, right?" added his brother. Thorin could sense his mischievous grin even from an entire continent away.

Of course he remembered, but pretended not to. "What bet?"                                               ........ The next day, it became very arduous for the Chinese Chamber of Commerce's representatives not to laugh when Thorin presented his speech wearing his Leicester City's boxer and nothing else.

(Obviously, Dwalin took picture of him and sent them to Frerin, who promptly forwarded them to Bilbo).

Fic rec Days - Part 3

As I said above, before falling in the bagginshield hell, I read only fanfic written in italian by my friends about japanese idol groups. Most of them are published on livejournal, but I'd like to promote that I think is the most complete in writing and setting one-shot ever. Is inspired from Kanjani8 song "Uchuu ni itta raion" ("The lion which went to space") and Le petit prince and even if you don't know Eito, you'll love this short fairy-tale about friendship and stars.

Fic Rec Days - Part 2

"Recent discoveries" section:

Favours. In the front of "fake relationship", one of my weak point, there's this story. Maybe is not the most original (Thorin asks his neighbour Bilbo to pretend being his boyfriend while his family is visiting), but well written and hilarious at some points.

Looking to see by Hildyj. If you are short-sighted like me, you'll understand Thorin's discomfort when is forced to leave his spectacles at the shop to being replaced. Fortunately, he turns up in Bilbo's cafè...

I saw Uncle kissing Santa Claus by andquitefranly. Generally, I don't like Christmas atmosphere... but Thorin's mood is contagious especially when there's need to cheer up little Frodo who lost his parents recently. [Suggested soundtrack: every silly Christmas song is fine]

Something wonderful serie by HobbitSizedWriter. I have to admit: I have a soft spot for stories in which one of the couple has a disability but in fact is the strongest one. In this fic we have sassy Bilbo at his best, despite being deaf, and Thorin softer than ever. In some point the writing lost fluidity but is still enjoyable.

The longest night by Meg_Thilbo. This fic is perfect to read in cold winter days, while curling in your favourite blanket or near the fireplace. The fairy-tale elements merge perfectly with the familiar "Tolkien scenario" creating something original. You'll love Orcrist, the wolf!

"Unfinished tales" section:

Counting stars by Merrom and Valania. This is my little excursus in the Kiliel ship. I love Tauriel character being a nerd and a little naïve. The setting reminds me some teen-drama like Dawson's Creek or One Tree Hill (yes, I'm old). Bonus: a hint of Fìli/Sigrid. [Suggested soundtrack: She's not afraid by 1D]

A wanderer be by thingishouldntbedoing. Again, one of my first bagginshield fanfiction and again, Thorin is a soldier suffering from PTSD but the originality in respect of "Obstacles" is the team Frodo/Merry/Pippin/Sam+Fìli&Kìli plotting to get their bachelor uncles together.

Where the thrush knocks by andquitefrankly. Bilbo is a history professor obsessed with the ancient, mythological and lost Kingdom of Erebor. He has a map that can't decipher, but his old friend Gandalf get him in touch with Thorin Durin, an archeologist who is searching for Erebor too.. if you like Indiana Jones, this fic is perfect for you! And if you don't.... what's wrong with you??

An unexpected text by baggvinshield and filiandkiliheirsofdurin. What would you do if you received an unexpected text from an unknown number? Well, Thorin Oakenshield is a bit annoyed but nevertheless he accepts to do Bilbo Baggins, a cartographer, a favour. Is the beginning of a strange friendship or maybe something more?

"Short is better" section:

Where the lost can be found by authoressjean. One of my (many) weak points: grungy Thorin (in other words: Richard Armitage as Chop in Urban and the Shed Crew). There's a newcomer at the soup kitchen where Bilbo works and immediately attracts his attention: why is he there? why he can't come back to his family?

What to do when your cat is an asshole by lily_winterwood. This one-shot is told by Smaug's POV. Who's Smaug? A red cat. Thorin's cat. And this is just hilarious.

The great shire conspiracy by Avelera. Are you sure that Thorin, Fìli and Kìli died in the Battle of Five Armies? Then, who are the THREE dwarves who help Bilbo packing for his second journey? If you're seeking for a fix-it, this one-shot is for you! And you'll end up identifying yourself with Nali, the ultimate shipper.

Written on his skin by serenbach. The Quest has left signs on Bilbo deeply and otherwise, but Thorin didn't realize it until he has the hobbit in his arms. A little angst, a little fluff one-shot. to be continued... in part 3

Fic Rec Days - Part 1

I never was an eager reader of fanfictions (an eager reader yes, but fanfic? not quite...), I've only read my friends' stuff about the japanese idol groups I follow mostly because they're funny and I admit that I've even write some stupid things on my own. But since I started working as a proofreader, I read everyday a lot of boring things in other languages than italian. This requires me a lot of concentration that drain me any will to read more. Then "The Desolation of Smaug" happened and I was left searching desperately for answers that only the fandom could give me. So I started following some blogs and then I found myself on AO3 and then... here we are.  

I don't pretend to be an expert or to have some superior knowledge but I really like to talk about the things I like so this is my first fic rec (sorry for any mistakes):                          

"All time classics" section:

Nothing gold can stay by perkynurples. Probably there's none in the bagginshield fandom who haven't heard about this story because is truly a milestone. This is my first bagginshield fanfic ever so I have deep feelings about. You can follow Professor Bilbo Baggins losing his heart to the handsome and grumpy King Thorin and losing his mind in the intricate political scene of the Kingdom of Erebor (somewhere near Switzerland). Bonus: the absolutely adorable Princes Fìli&Kìli. If you like love-comedy movie like The Prince and Me, you can't miss this fic. [Suggested soundtrack for the first chapters: King of anything by Sara Bareilles]

Planting a Hobbit by northentrash. Another pillar in the bagginshield fandom and one of my favourite headcanon: Thorin thinking that Bilbo is unsatisfied with living in a mountain builds him a garden. Not a simple garden but one worthy his Consort. I really like the turning point at the end (SPOILER?) when Bilbo realizes that his friends have done all the work not because they were afraid of him leaving but 'cause they didn't believe they're quite enough for him to stay.

The "dying" Hobbit by Resacon1990. Dwarves don't know flu so when Bilbo catches a bad cold they assume the worst (and Gandalf is not helping). I always reread this fic when I'm sick because works better than a drug!

The making of a story by northentrash. I love all Char's works but this one, in particular, has a soft fluidity that touches you deeply. When Bilbo finds an old bag containing family photographs tries to contact the owner and get in touch with Thorin Durin who is taking care of his grandfather Thror suffering of senile dementia. [Suggested soundtrack: Photograph by Ed Sheeran]

Rest your weary soul by andquitefrankly. This story tears you in as many pieces as the times Bilbo and Thorin meet but end up losing each other. But despair not! There's an happy ending.

Borderline harassment, probably by lindoreda. Thorin has a big crush on the librarian despite the fact that he does not believe in love at first sight...maybe... I like the different POVs in this fic.

"Current obsessions" section:

Burning Low by Avelera. An interesting character study focusing on Thorin and his anxieties of being King Under the Mountain. I really love the dynamics between him and Bilbo. [Suggested soundtrack: King by Lauren Aquilina]

Per Aspera by northentrash. This fanfic placed in an Erebor never fellAU has a gloomy atmosphere and despise the beautiful relationship (lovestory?) between Prince Thorin and Bilbo Baggins, the invisible thief, the strong point is, in my opinion, the minor characters like Frerin, Thrain, Thror and Nori. [Suggested soundtrack: Atlas by Shannon Saunders]

A Remover of Obstacles by MistakenMagic. If I were able, I should write a paper to review properly this amazing fanfic. It's like a roller coaster: you can go from ohgodmypreciousbabiesthey'resocuteandsoinlovewitheachother to ohno!NO!NOOOO!!ican'tseethemsufferanymore!!issomuchPAIN!! within few paragraphs. But if you can survive the ache, it's really worth. The plot briefly: both Thorin and Bilbo are war veterans and they met in Ered Luin hospital suffering of post-traumatic stress disorders. At first, I quite didn’t like Fìli being a girl, then the development of her relationship with her uncle made me really love the character. In my opinion, the only weak point of this work is using Tolkien's characters a bit randomly but it's not a big issue. [Suggested soundtrack: Fools by Lauren Aquilina]

The road goes ever on and on by paranoid_fridge. The thing that I love the most about the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings is that they're "journey literature" discovering imaginary places and cultures but in someway "real". So after abdicating to Fìli, Thorin and Bilbo, former King and Consort Under the Mountain, travel East to explore new cities and new people, will they arrive at the Orocarni Mountain to visit the Dwarves clans living there?

Where have all the flowers gone by perkynurples. I was waiting for this fic since the early drafts and hints that Annie left in her blog. I like the Second World War scenario because is one of the most terrible yet fascinating period of humankind history and I'm curious to see how the relationship between Bilbo and Fìli&Kìli will develop.  To be continued....in part 2
