4 Reasons We Relate to Fictional Characters/Our Fictional Friends

“That’s the striking thing about the show’s return: It feels personal, even though it’s the least personal thing in the world.” 

“The term “parasocial relationship” was originally coined by psychologists Donald Horton and Richard Wohl in 1956 to describe this one-sided sense of connectedness between a person and a fictional character.”

“Characters can become like our friends or even an extension of ourselves.”

These quotes are some of my favorite quotes from the two articles. These articles felt very relatable, because I have been in the position where I have felt emotionally attached to a TV show and/or a character. I agree with these articles, because it is very personal and you feel as though you are friends with the characters, even though it is a fictional character. I have also found myself liking characters that are similar to my friends and myself, which is very interesting.
