I started fiddle camp, today. Fiji is with @richardroussy. I miss her, but excited for all the new things I will learn. I'll see my furbaby, tonight. She seems to love Richard and his grandchildren and doggy, Cleo. I will take her on a run tonight to make up for my absence. Gosh, I wish she could sit in class with me. In other news, we had to audition this morning to be placed in our classes. We auditioned out in the open in front of a panel of judges/instructors and students. Eesh, I wasn't shaking until I began to play. I made a couple of mistakes, but thankfully, I was able to get through the A section of Tennessee Waltz. After all the auditions took place, they placed a paper on the wall, stating where we were going. I was surprised to find myself in the advanced class with some pretty awesome fiddlers; the youngest is 12 and oldest is 67. I thought for sure I'd be in the intermediate class because I am not a fiddler and do not practice playing by ear or improvising like I should. Well, advanced class got off to a funky start. This piece is called Crusty the Clown. It is in 6/8 and 7/8. Funky rhythms! Anyway, we learn everything by ear, so I have to throw out the security of reading notes. Looks like it'll be a fun week, with everyone being so nice! I am excited to learn from Yvonne Hernandez and Gord Stobbe. Our instructor for this class is the former. #kootenay9fiddleworkshop #fiddlecamp #FiJaPAW (at Selkirk College)
