Summary: He’s not going to find the right answer by making lists of pros and cons. The truth is that he loves them both. He doesn’t know why everyone tries to sell some true love fantasy about finding “the one”, because now more than ever Harry knows that doesn’t exist. He is definitely in love with two people, two completely different people with completely different personalities, and there is no right choice.
Summary: Harry comes home from tour and shows up at Nick's birthday. Nick is properly dating Matt, but that seems to matter less than it should.
Category: One Shot (3017)
Harry's not technically invited to Nick's party, in that he didn't receive one of Aimee's fancy embossed invitations in the post on account of being in another country, but Nick's birthday celebrations have always been "come when you can and come as you are" events
but I really want an au where chris and scarjo are bartenders in anthony's bar, and seb is a regular who anthony thinks is all about scarlett, but it's clear to chris that sebastian only has eyes for their boss. anthony's trying to be a good wingman for his girl, putting on the charm whenever seb comes in, making him laugh, giving him extra fries when he orders food, whatever. cue misunderstandings and pining and chris playing matchmaker, then lots of giggly, teasing, super hot sex.

Where's my wild West AU to go with this?
i want a wild west au soooooo bad. so bad!!!!!!!
like, let's say it's about 1830, and harry's family isn't doing so well, financially, so he takes the last of their money - his and gemma's and anne's, that is - and brings the lot of them to the states, and they spend a year or two out east getting settled in to life in new york city, which is already a bit of a weird and lawless place compared even to london - the newness of it all makes it feel different, and how close the wild is. he'd read books as a kid, back in cheshire, about america, and about the west, but being there. let's say it's 1832.
and he hears tell of opportunity to be had, out west. but maybe anne's met robin at this point and gemma's got something of her own goin, idk, and harry is a bit superfluous at that point, in a way, but also he wants to provide for them still
so he gets himself all outfitted - they've got a bit more money now - and joins up with a crew that's going westward. the little irishman niall horan, who's as affable as anyone harry's met, and a better sharpshooter; louis tomlinson, who's quicktempered but also funding a lot of their little expedition; liam, who's widely accepted as the muscle of their crew; zayn, who at first seems inscrutable but, it turns out, is in it for reasons similar to harry - he just wants to get money to support his family, not prove himself like niall or louis or liam do.
and anyway so the lot of them all ride out, feeling very proud and smug about things, and proper excited. they PROBABLY should have just got a ride on a train, at least as far as st. louis? but they ride out from new york city in late march as it's finally warming up, and it takes them a long, long time to get anywhere.
at last they hit st louis, and it's late october already, cold winds blowing in. they end up staying a while. louis wants to go on, but the morning he's almost talked them into it, the final words of his big "WE SHOULD DEFINITELY KEEP GOING" speech are cut off by a snowflake landing right on his nose and niall cracking up at him. they spend the winter doing odd jobs and lazing around a cheap hotel.
liam and niall take up drinking and carousing at the brothel. zayn meets a pretty girl at the inn they're staying at and him and perrie have a bit of a torrid affair in the back rooms and out behind the stables and wherever they get the chance, really. louis sulks and grouses around the whole winter.
harry just does odd jobs and keeps his head up and befriends whoever he can - people who come through on the train, folks from town, traders and trappers he runs into at the general store. never know when you might meet someone useful, is his philosophy.
and harry ends up meeting the floppest of flop prospectors nick grimshaw, who has a claim someplace out west along a river where he aims to go looking for gold, because there's meant to be gold way out west there, supposedly; he's got money enough already to hire them on to like
help protect his claim and escort him as far west as he needs to go. bit cheaper than joining up with a wagon train. possibly a lot stupider. but whatever. zayn's got a promise to come back to st louis to meet up again with his sweet perrie (also the whole 'send money to his family' thing that's still relevant but nick's promise them all a share if they do indeed find gold on his claim)
and there is a whole journey west where they are set upon by outlaws and attacked by a bear and all kinds of West Things. hunting and setting up camp and generally journeying and maybe harry finds himself more and more fascinated with nick's stories (many made up) about his prior adventures n that
also lots of singing around the campfire and eating tinned beans
i dunno the point is wild west au and gryles that's who i am that's what i want that's .. the dream.
(i've also got a bit of daydreaming about wily bandit matty healy getting involved at some point but this is a lot of pointless words already)

Yeah, same feeling. I mean I get they’re trying to do a good thing but it’s always white ideas of a good thing and doesn’t actually do anything to address or fix the problem.
it's like the most literal possible visual representation of the ~white savior~ complex and unpleasantly reminiscent of british imperialism and idk? i have literally no idea what the actual efficacy of the programs being supported are, i have no idea how much getting like one direction or random radio hosts to go there boosts donation amounts, idk. if it's actually efficacious or helpful then cool i guess but it still feels weird? worse if it's not haha.
