a lot of people have gotten on my ass about my dislike for fidget spinners, but let me make something clear. i don't hate fidget spinners. i hate the fact that they're popular. now before you jump to conclusions that i'm some hipster who likes being ahead of the times, let me explain. trends and fads fall out faster than they come. every kid and teenager, even some adults, are all over the fidget spinner when, newsflash? a majority of them don't NEED it. don't get me wrong, i'm not saying i know someone's life or someone's struggles by just looking at them, but when a kid claims "it helps me focus" and then the entire class period they're just playing around with it and it becomes a distraction between them and their friends, that's when you can tell that they only have it because it's the next big trend and everyone has one so they need one. or when they purposely spin them just for the noise it makes and tries to confuse the teacher or other students. i hate the fact that they're becoming a distraction when the point of them is to eliminate distraction. another reason i hate the fact that they're popular is because by the time the school year rolls around again, they're not going to be "cool" anymore and for the kids that ACTUALLY need them and that are seen with them? they're going to be made fun of. because they have something that isn't cool and hip. last time i checked, mental disorders are not cool or hip. stop acting like it's the new thing to have a mental disorder. it's. not. cool. it's also to the point where teachers are banning them from classrooms which sucks for the kids it was actually helping and the kids that didn't need them in the first place aren't affected. so yeah. i don't like fidget spinners. but i have one because ever since 6th grade, i've spun an eraser between my fingers and i can finally do that with a fidget spinner and it's easier and it helps. if you don't see something helping a kid, why give it to them? that's like putting a child on medication and it does nothing and you just keep giving it to them. sometimes, it makes them worse. it just makes me upset that fidget spinners are popular. and sure, if they weren't so popular then they wouldn't have started selling them in stores or a lot of kids may not have gotten them when those kids need them but. they're popular for the wrong reason and you can't deny that.
