International Student Amandine Garcia Says FIDM Instructors are La Creme De La Creme
International student Amandine Garcia graduated last quarter with her Fashion Design degree. She attended FIDM on a scholarship awarded by the Fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet in France, and is diligently pursuing a career in costume design. We asked her to tell us about her favorite FIDM instructors, and this is what she said.
I have been in school in three different countries, but the teachers at FIDM are “la crème de la crème,” as we say in France. I had the chance to have the best teachers in the world this year, honestly. I don’t know if I can cite them all, but just to give you some of them, I had:
Mr. O’Connor for Pattern 1; there is no one nicer than he is.
Ms. Riegelman for Fashion Illustration; she is soooo talented and so sweet I loved every second that I spent with her.
Ms. Cook for Draping; she will push you to show your personality even in basic creations.
Ms. Young for Textile Science; you can’t find anybody more passionate about textiles and for sure she will teach you how to recognize them even if at first you have no clue of what you’re doing.
Ms. Montgomery for Pattern 2; she is so unique, she even brought us cookies in class and told me she would help me if I needed a recommendation for costume.
Ms. Jansen—she makes everything peaceful and is also so helpful; I have made my favorite creation in her class.
Mr. Walker—if you want to learn and laugh, he is the best.
Mr. Olvera for Business of Fashion; he makes it so interesting.
Ms. Owen will prepare you for the real world. Thanks to her the portfolio I created in her class earned me jobs offers. She cares so much about her students.
I know I have been the luckiest person in the world to have those incredible instructors and I miss them all already. Everybody was telling me, you must be so happy that you are graduating, but the truth is NO. Not at all, I am sad that I won’t go to this amazing school anymore, I loved it so much. I had the time of my life.
