@flowerbarrel submitted: Two of my favorite types of butterflies, Monarch and a type of checkerspot butterfly. Poor checkerspot had a little tear in his wing but he was still getting around alright.
Beautiful friends! Tears in wings are super normal and they can sustain a whole lot of damage before they're unable to fly :)

Sure, looks like either a field crescent or a painted crescent. They're both in the same genus (Phyciodes) and have rather variable markings that can look super similar so I'd need more photos to say for sure!
