every damn time i remember the placement of Sting's Fields of Gold in Bridgerton Season 4, it feels like a brick to the face. Spoiler ahead.

The song fades in right at the moonlit, peaceful garden scene with Francesca and John, one of, if not the last scenes that peaceful with just the two of them

It's always been a very peaceful song to me, full of melancholy, too. But in this case it's also insanely foreshadowing: The Fields of Gold are Fields of Barley.

"Will you stay with me, will you be my love, among the fields of barley?"

Now, where's the foreshadowing? Francesca and Michaela have the time of their life playing a drinking game that one evening, whenever one of the lords or whatever mentions barley. It's an easter egg if you will, that the two will be together. And that John's death was imminent.

I've been wondering honestly, why they picked the song, at first, until I came to this realisation. I'm familiar with Sting's music, I think he's a brilliant musician, but for my age I do have a taste in music that runs into territories slowly forgotten these days, but thanks (and sincerely thanks) to my parents I won't forget.

So yeah. TL;DR Fields of Gold was used as a huge fucking hint for Franchaela and John's death lmao.
