Sarah sat beside the stretcher, unable to hide the amusement on her face as she looked over the cut. “Are you going for a record or something? Because y’know, Davey and I have started placing bets on you.”

“I feel like I should be insulted but honestly I’m honored. And yes as a matter of fact I am going for a record. Long as that lady is trying to destroy our neighborhood I’m gonna try and stop her.”

21. My muse finds out a loved one of your muse has died, and has to tell them.

It’s a phone call that no-one ever wants to get no matter how old that you get to be. Liam stares back at his sister who’s playing happily in the kitchen floor. He was babysitting while his dad and step-mom took Davey to the doctor. A trip that they were coming back from. 

He’s supposed to leave for college next fall. But he hasn’t paid for anything yet. Time to return that money and tell them he changed his mind on the acceptance. There is no way he’s letting Charlie be raised by strangers. But first. 

“Little Minnow. Come here please. We gotta talk.” He’s sat down in one of the chairs and smiled at her.

“ No, ”   he concedes.   “ Thought we might sort this out ourselves. ”

Killian fiddles with the strap on his prosthetic---he’s had it on longer than he should. Late nights on patrol with Emma have left him with little sleep and a sore stump. Worse yet, it’s left his children with little supervision.

“ How’d you suppose you’d fare if your mum had answered this call instead of me? ”   He’s pulled his brace clean off and his good hand is running slow circles over the reddened flesh.

She froze, if only for a moment when the cool steel of the blade pressed into her throat. Her eyes narrowed and fists clenched but she remained un-moving, the situation was already risky enough now as it were and Charlotte didn’t need to make it any worse by acting on any sort of impulse.

“Is this entirely necessary?”

The blade withdraws a moment later and is tucked back into it’s sheath on his waist. “Gotta keep you on your toes don’t I?”

“I’ve been buying you meals for how many days now, that should count.” Smirking, the woman nudged the teenager. “I’m sure you’ll know one day, after all family isn’t just blood.”

“And I am grateful for every single one of them. If there’s anything I can do to repay you, please tell me. Of course you’re right. But I doubt anyone would ever want to call me family besides you.”
