My favorite parts are when he actually speaks English.
I'm sorry if I clogged up your dash with my Sleepy Hollow commentary liveblog Blame fiery-disposition mun and their liveblog of Hercules for my doing so.
A trip to the Underworld// fiery-disposition //closed
The demigod's boots made little noise as she walked toward the entrance to the Underworld. She was surprisingly calm for someone who was being sent to see her father. Seeing as she had destroyed another mortal's building one of the gods complained to Zeus who sent Hermes. The messenger god had told her that Zeus didn't want her to keep destroying and torturing mortals. If she wanted to destroy something she would have to go to the Underworld.
"This is a joke." She muttered as she descended into the Underworld. Charon looked at her indifferently when she approached the ferry. She tossed him a drachma which he took up in his hand as she got onto the boat.
"I take it you're going to your father's?" He asked, his voice holding no interest. She shot him a glare and he started rowing. She didn't bother to look or listen to what was going on around her. The suffering of souls was what kept her up all night to begin with. When she arrived at the house in the middle of the Underworld she hopped off the boat. Not bothering to knock she entered the house.
A large, circular room sat in the heart of the Underworld. Black pillars rose from the floor around the chamber, carved into obscurity in the twisted shapes of bird beaks, demon maws, and the writhing, tortured dead. Round holes, one for each cardinal direction, were carved out of the walls, allowing a view from the tower to the waters of the Underworld river surrounding it, roiling with the restless souls of the dead. In the center of the room sat a round table emblazoned with a map, upon which sat a host of figurines carved from pitch.
A tear in reality opened up in the room, a portal into Darkness, the dark flames leaping up from the hole creating a low thwoom that echoed ominously off the walls of the stone chamber. And from that hole stepped a figure in a long black coat, hood pulled up and throwing its face into shadow. The tear flickered shut like a dying flame as boots took the first steps onto solid ground.
The traveler pulled his hood back, allowing a mane of bright silver hair to spill free. Despite the black blindfold tied around his eyes, he took a moment to look around the room--and to sniff the air. A half grimace pulled at his lips as he took stock of his surroundings.
He knew this scent. He'd encountered it once before--the only other time he'd been in this realm. But it wasn't a scent one ever forgot: a miasma of brimstone mixed with flame, mild putrefaction and the stale, soggy air of the underground, of a world with no wind.
As Riku took in the details of Hades' war room, he knew that this was the place depicted in Naminé's latest drawing. But why? Why had she sent him into the Underworld?
The answer had to do with Sora; it always had to do with Sora. But how could a fragment of his best friend's shattered memories have made its way all the way down here? Unless Naminé's divination had somehow gone awry...? Not likely. Not impossible, either.
In either case, after a quick look around Riku was certain that nothing he sought was in this room. He made for the exit: a pair of towering stone double doors. He hoped they weren't as heavy as they looked. However, pushing on them with all his strength proved that they were; he wasn't able to move them an inch, even after channeling a mild thread of Darkness into his limbs to increase his strength.
Great. Just wonderful. If he left via another Corridor, without divination to guide him, there was no telling where in the Underworld he'd end up. He had no desire to rub elbows with the howling dead--nor to become one himself. This was the worst conceivable place to get lost; teleporting around willy-nilly was out of the question.
But so, too, was getting those doors open, it seemed.
