Why Lena would choose Lex
Trauma. Abuse. If you haven’t experienced on a level like Lena, you cannot understand. Narcissist Step-Mother, addict Father, Psychopath Brother and feeling abandoned by her real Mother. This is what she knows. She knows how to manage this in a way that won’t break her. Or at least how to fight back at it. But love? Friendship? Trust? Relying on someone else for help? Those things scare the fucking shit out of her. Those things, the things she wants desperately but has no idea how to express the need for? Those things are paralyzing. What if these people get to know her and abandon her like her Mother? She’s been told she’s screwed up, not right, abnormal, dramatic, far too trusting, by the people that raised her and part of her believes it. She is so terrified to break the cycle she knows. The closer to the dark she gets, the more she believes she’s unsavable. When some of you hear about abuse and wonder, “Why didn’t they just leave?” THIS is why. Fear. On all kinds of levels that most people will never understand.
But let’s not forget. Lena’s smart. Smarter than all of the Luthors. Maybe it just seems like she chose Lex.
