ON MARRIAGE EQUALITY, ERASURE, AND JUSTICE
For some of us the victory of marriage equality comes at a heavy price. Never forget the countless trans women of color certain LGB “T” organizations, so foccussed on marriage equality, kept from accessing jobs. Never forget the countless trans people whose voices have been erased, silenced and forgotten during this fight for marriage equality- even when their's is the loudest in favor of it. Never forget the countless people of color in other countries who are deeper in poverty because some of the marriage equality funders' business practices support anti-blackness as well as support driving their countries deeper in debt. Never forget the countless homeless lgbtq youth and elders who have been told by the mainstream LGB movement, they would come back for them later. Never forget the countless murdered trans women of color who suffered because orgs so focused on marriage equality (and with enormous budgets) poured nothing into economic justice, safer schools and safer neighborhoods. Never forget with out the bravery of trans women of color like Marsha p Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Ms.Major and countless other trans and gender non conforming folk there would be no lgbtq movement. Never forget in many pre-colonized cultures there was already marriage equality. Never forget that blood pays the cost for every piece of pro lgbtq legislation, not the president, not the Supreme Court, blood. Blood transformed into money. Blood often attempted to be washed away by forget. Congrats beloved, but never forget we have way more work to do.
