“The Truth Will Set You Free”

My Morning Affirmations Taken Straight From Bible Verses:

God’s light shines in the darkness and the darkness will not overcome it. 

As God thinks it will come to pass and as he has purposed it will stand. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think. The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary. There is no searching of his understanding. God planted the ear, formed the eye, and teaches knowledge. He will hear, see, and know. If I believe not, yet God abides faithful.

I will hear a word behind me if I turn to the right hand or to the left saying this is the way-walk in it. This is the work of God: that I believe on Him who He sent. My strength is to sit still. In returning and rest I will be saved. 

If I have a fearful heart I can be strong and fear not because God will come with a vengeance and a recompense to save me. I can be careful for nothing. If I, with thanksgiving, let God know my requests, then His peace which passes all understanding will keep my heart and mind. God will keep me in perfect peace if my mind is stayed on Him because I trust Him. The Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Christ’s love toward me passes knowledge. No one can separate me from that love. 

God searches my heart and knows what I am going to say before I say it. The Holy Spirit prays for me the prayers I don’t even know I need. Jesus will never leave me or forsake me. He has called me a friend. Since God is for me none can be against me. God is the author and finisher of my faith.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I am a daughter. The Egyptians are men and not God. I should not fear the reproach of men because they will disappear but Gods righteousness will last forever. I am the Lord’s freeman. I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people, accepted in the beloved. I am of the light and of the day. The one who created me cares about me. I am precious in His sight. I am more than a conquer through him who loves me.

The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup:

thou maintainest my lot.

The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places;

yea, I have a goodly heritage.

The Chair of Awesome

Sometimes I catch doubt and negative thoughts trying to creep their way back into my thought process. It’s amazing how after a wonderful day filled with Jesus and worship can be affected by one negative thought. What do we do in these moments of self-hate, self-criticism, and lies?

Last week, our revival group practiced something we call the “Chair of Awesome”. One person would have to sit in the middle of a circle and in 3 minutes, tell us everything that they thought was awesome about themselves. I knew if there was any time ever that this would be important, now was the time. I went in front of the mirror and started recording the audio of myself listing off reasons why I was awesome. It was difficult at first because I had a moment of doubt right beforehand. I was wondering, “Wow, did I really make the right decision quitting my job and leaving my friends and family to be here?” I started questioning my decision, whether or not I heard God’s voice, and so began the spiral. So I started off with saying I was awesome, but I didn’t believe it. I was repeating something a friend once said of me. I kept going. It wasn’t until about minute 9 that it really started to hit me... Yes! I am awesome!

You know, the truth is that for a long, long time, I thought that I needed to have false humility. I thought that it was prideful for someone to say what they were good at. But I have been learning what true humility is -- it’s when you know what you’re great at, and what you’re not so great at. Saying I’m horrible at something I’m good at doesn’t give glory to God, it makes me a liar. I’m not saying we should flatter ourselves or puff ourselves up, or be arrogant. But we should know who we are. How can we recognize the best in others when we fail to recognize the best in ourselves? How do I love my neighbor as I love myself if I don’t love myself? This is the great value and purpose of the gift prophecy -- it edifies, exhorts and comforts (1 Corinthians 14). Sometimes we need to actually prophecy over ourselves because we need edification, exhortation and comfort as well. So hey, whether you’re feeling horrible or awesome today, sit yourself down in the chair of awesome and tell yourself what it is about you that makes you awesome! And this is why the word of God (rhema and logos) is so powerful for us. When we know what God says about us, all we have to do is remind ourselves of what He says. His word never returns void (Isaiah 55:11) and it gives life (Proverbs 3:1). Speak it. Meditate on it. Read it. Listen to it. Imagine it. Let His word comfort, edify, and exhort you today.

All this to say that after 9 minutes of listing off reasons why I’m awesome, the doubt, hate, criticism and lies I believed just melted away.
