♕ - What are 5 writing tips you’d give to beginners?
1. You don’t always have to start at the beginning. Sometimes the best stories will throw you inspiration for something in the middle, or even at the end. Let it be a journey to figure out how to get there, and never ever feel put off if everything doesn’t seem to click right away. It will so long as you keep at it.2. Research. Researching is your friend, be it for something as small as an unknown setting or something as wide as the history of a completely different culture. There are tools available to you and using them, learning from them, will help your writing in ways you couldn’t imagine.3. In the same sense, you do not have to have everything planned out, either. Get vague ideas and let them form! Plan it out if it makes you feel better, but don’t let it restrict you. Not sure if this setting in LA is for you but it seems to fit the best? Think of an AU, make it your own. The perfect setting doesn’t have to already exist. Take a little bit from everything, or take nothing at all. No one else has to approve, just you.4. One of the things that I do, that may or may not work for you, is that I don’t just write them out and not worry about them until I write again. These characters are a part of me, voices in my soul that speak of their own accord. Imagine what they would say or do, in your shoes. Would they like that tea you’re drinking? Would they laugh at that guy who just snorted his burrito? Would they chastise you for that tub of ice cream you just ate, or would they have a spoon too? Let yourself hear their voice and putting yourself in their view for writing may come easier.5. Take a break. Writing is fun. If you’re doing this, it’s because you love it. Yeah, being an author one day might mean it’ll be your job, but it doesn’t have to feel that way. If you start to feel obligated to write, like as if there is nothing in it for you anymore, then stop. STOP. You can and WILL burn yourself out. Don’t let it consume you. Stop and go enjoy that movie you wanted to see. Call the boy/girlfriend and do a surprise outing. Maybe even pick up that book you’ve been eyeballing. Just. Breathe. You’re writing about someone else’s life, but how can you convey it correctly if you aren’t living your own?
♎ - What is one thing you love about your writing?
Hmmm…. this is difficult. I mean, really I sometimes DESPISE my writing. But I guess… I like the way that I feel I’m able to voice the character? The descriptions of their surrounding are altered by their own voice. A character who is happy, generally at peace with the world, would see a rainy day completely different in comparison to someone who was withdrawn. Much more so, I’m willing to change my style to fit that character. If they are formal, then so should their thoughts. If they are casual, then so are the descriptions. I dunno, I just feel that way you can get to see more of the character.

Wandering had its consequences. His home was rather far by now. Having taken a bus with the little money he had, Miki had figured he could walk home. His stamina was strong, and it was rare for him to grow exhausted. Hearing about a festival, one filled with free treats and fireworks, the youth had decided against staying indoors all day. And so he'd went out, the dirty walls of his room left behind as afternoon turned into night.
What he hadn't been expecting, though, was for the festival to be canceled due to an oncoming storm. Among arriving, he'd witnessed the city folk looking disappointed as they left, tiny rain drops beginning their descent. The rays of a setting sun turned into a dark sky, clouds gray and hovering above their heads. The strong winds sent chills down his spine, and knowing a storm was inevitable at this point, he panicked. If a storm struck while he was outside, that meant thunder. Working fast, eyes scanned around him. There were little facilities around, but thankfully it was all close in proximity. As the rain began to fall heavily, he darted off. With a large shirt that went down to his thighs, Miki was left with bare, cold arms, water already beginning to slick off him. Bright gold hues fell on something with a cover; a hut standing next to a row of large green trees. Breath heavy, he ran beneath it, realizing soon after that it was a small shrine on the outskirts of town, not bigger than a single bedroom. He stood beneath the cut off roof, unaware that someone else was close, awaiting the fear that usually came with sharp sparks of lightning.
